As we mentioned a few days ago, the famous Abbey Road recording studios in North London have now gone up for sale. And according to a recent report at reuters.com, it appears that musical theatre impresario Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, is interested in buying it.
Lloyd Webber, whose stage musicals include “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats,” thinks that it is very important that the Abbey Road Studios, made famous of course by the Beatles in the 1960’s, are saved for the future of the music industry in the UK.

Music Company EMI, who is now laden with debt, is seeking buyers for the recording studios, and is apparently in talks with a few interested parties. Both the company and its private equity owner Terra Firma, have declined to give comment on the situation.
The Beatles recorded many of their 1960’s hit singles and albums in the former 1831 town house known as Abbey Road Studios. Many of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals have been recorded there, as well as music from bands such as Radiohead and Pink Floyd.
