Nepal’s Shortest Man and Guinness Book of Records

An 18-year old man who is only 56cm tall has left his home country of Nepal recently, in his quest to be recognised as the world’s shortest man. According to stuff.co.nz, Khagendra Thapa Magar is on his way to Europe, to campaign for the Guinness World Record title.

Apparently he applied to the London-based group for a place in the record book back in October, soon after he turned 18, but says that he has still not received any response. Magar’s family originally filed a claim when he was only 14, but it was rejected as he was not an adult.

At that time, there was a slight chance he could grow. Doctors in Nepal have never been able to explain why Khagendra is so small. Magar’s father Rup Bahadur Thapa Magur said that they are going to go to Italy, to try and record his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Once in Italy, they plan to appear on an Italian television show to talk about Khagendra’s bid for the title. Once that is over, both Magar and his father will decide on the next destination. The current record is held by He Pingping of China, who is said to be 73 cm tall.
