The last time that the USA won the overall medal count at the Winter Olympics, was seventy-eight years ago. And according to a report at bleacherreport.com, it looks like they are going to do so again, at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
With only three days left of the competition now, the U.S. has managed to take a six-medal lead over the Winter Olympics powerhouse Germany, which would lose in the overall medal tally for the first time since 1994, when Norway won by two medals.

The United States collected a total of four medals yesterday, to Germany’s two. That now means that the U.S. has increased its overall medal count to 32. The U.S. women’s hockey team picked up a silver medal, even after being defeated by Canada in the gold medal game.
What was probably the highlight of the day for the U.S. came in the form of the large hill individual discipline of Nordic Combined, which combines ski jumping with cross-country skiing. For the first time in Olympic history, 2 Americans entered in the front of the race.
With 48 medals in total still to hand out at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, it is still possible for the Germans to make up the six-medal deficit on the United States, although it is also quite unlikely. Germany only has athletes competing in 11 of the final 16 events.
