American rapper Guru – whose real name is Keith Alam – reportedly suffered a heart attack yesterday, and it has now been confirmed that the hip-hop star is in a coma. According to a report at uktodaynews.com, Guru’s partner DJ Premier confirmed the news.
In a phone call to the Hip Hop Nation radio show yesterday, DJ Premier said “Guru is in a coma and will undergo surgery tomorrow afternoon.” Reports say that the 43-year old rapper is currently being treated in a New York hospital.

Guru became famous back in the 1980’s, for being a member of hip-hop duo Gang Starr, whose hits include “Full Clip,” “Just to Get Rep,” and “Words I Manifest.” Members of the hip-hop world consider him as one of the pioneers of the hip-hip/jazz crossover.
Besides being part of Gang Starr and having his own solo albums – such as “Guru 8.0: Lost and Found” – he has also worked with many other musicians from all different genres of music, including pop, electronic/dance and has even worked with brass bands.
