When it came to the 82nd Academy Awards, which took place last night and was hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, it appeared to be a battle between James Cameron, and his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, who were both up for several awards.
Not only were they up against each other for the Best Picture award, but they were also competing for Best Director. And even though there were other movies and directors nominated, many predicted it would be a battle of the exes at last night’s ceremony.

And according to a report at usatoday.com, unfortunately for James Cameron and “Avatar,” it was Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq war drama “The Hurt Locker,” that not only won her the award for Best Picture, but also earned her the Best Director award.
58-year old Bigelow – the first woman to win the Best Director award – was over the moon at winning, and described it as the moment of a lifetime. She then went on to say that she was dedicating it to all the women and men who fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.
