Asperger’s syndrome on ‘Parenthood’ – Dealing with the condition

I don’t know whether any of you have started watching the new NBC comedy-drama series “Parenthood,” but if you have, then you may have watched episode 2 which aired last night. On last night’s episode – titled “Man vs. Possum” – we learned a bit about the Braverman family.

And let’s start with the relationship between Julia and Joel. Julia is a working mom, who is really working hard towards her career, while Joel is the stay-at-home father, raising their daughter Sydney. Then we throw Raquel into the mix, who looks like she is after Joel Graham.

Then we have Crosby Braverman, who is just getting to know his kid Jabbar Trussell. Then we get to know Kristina and Adam a bit more, whose 8-year old son Max has just been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. The two are still trying to find a way to deal with their son’s condition.

As a parent you just want the best for your children, so it must be hard for Adam and Kristina to find out that their son has this condition, not knowing how to help him. But I’m sure they will find a way to deal with it, and help him cope with all the challenges he will face.
