Quentin Tarantino Hit with Plagiarism Lawsuit over ‘Kill Bill’

Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino – the man behind the “Kill Bill” movies, “Pulp Fiction,” and “Inglourious Basterds” – appears to have been hit with a plagiarism lawsuit recently, by a man accusing him and Harvey Weinstein of stealing a concept of his for the “Kill Bill” movies.

In the lawsuit, which was apparently filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, Dannez Hunter is claiming that he submitted an idea to Miramax – where Harvey Weinstein worked as chairman – back in 1999, which featured a character by the name of Ren Short.

Hunter’s character Ren hails from a historical Samurai lineage, who watches his mother get brutally murdered “in a cartoon format.” It just so happens that 4 years after that, Tarantino came up with an Anime sequence for the “Kill Bill” movies in which a character watches her parents get killed.

The similarities were just too much for Hunter, who then decided to take legal action. What aggravated matters further for Hunter, was the fact that Miramax never got back to him. Not sure why he actually waited around seven years to go to court though, but he is now seeking $1 million in damages.
