If you’re a Formula One fan, then you would know that the Bahrain Grand Prix qualifiers took place today. And as you can imagine, many fans’ eyes would have been on seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, who was returning to the sport after a three-year absence.
But Schumacher appeared to get left in the shade during the qualifiers, when Germany’s Sebastian Vettel pulled out all the stops to take pole position for Red Bull at the F1 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix race, which is taking place on Sunday 14th March.

According to indiatimes.com, 41-year old Schumacher ended up qualifying seventh for Mercedes. Red Bull had suffered several mechanical problems during the practice sessions, but that didn’t appear to stop 22-year old Vettel from pushing in front of the Ferraris to pole.
Pre-race favorite Fernando Alonso did actually hold provisional pole, after becoming one of only three drivers to make an early Q3 run. But according to itv-f1.com, Vettel blew that time right out of the water by nine tenths of a second, with a time of 1m54.101s.
Alonso managed to improve on his second run, but still didn’t manage to get a front-row start for his Ferrari debut, after his new team-mate and Brazilian driver Felipe Massa – who has returned after his terrifying accident last year – managed to outpace him by 0.366s.
