‘Avatar’ Set for Possible Summer Re-Release With Additional Footage

If you enjoyed watching James Cameron’s “Avatar” movie the first time around, imagine what it would be like to watch it again in 3D, but with some additional footage thrown in? Well according to a recent report at nytimes.com, that is exactly what you may be able to do soon.

“Avatar” could well be booked for a re-release at digital and Imax 3D theaters this summer. According to the report, director James Cameron is currently in discussion with Fox, to try and work out a second run for the hugely popular science-fiction movie.

And what’s more is that it could include additional scenes that were in fact cut from the original “Avatar.” Imax’s chief executive Richard L. Gelfond, said that Cameron had about 40 minutes of extra material. But unfortunately, only 10 minutes of film could be added.

This apparently, is to keep it under the 170-minute maximum length that a movie can be to be released in analog Imax theaters. “Avatar” was reportedly taken out of 3D theaters, to make way for the recent opening of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” movie.
