We have some sad news now for music fans who remember influential singer and guitarist Alex Chilton, as news has just come in that he has sadly died at the age of 59. Alex’s music career spanned over four decades.
According to eonline.com, Chilton passed away in New Orleans on Wednesday, after he experienced what appeared to be heart problems. He was taken to a nearby emergency room by ambulance, but was unable to be revived.

Alex was once a teen singer in the Box Tops, and was then a member of the American rock band Big Star. Alex was a driving force behind Big Star, and even influenced the likes of Jeff Buckley, Wilco, R.E.M. and the Replacements.
Not being very big on publicity, Chilton shunned the spotlight and was more than happy never to reach a high level of fame. All three albums that Big Star released ranked among the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, by Rolling Stone.
