Julia Roberts Eat Pray Love: Trailer upsets Hindus

The release date for Julia Roberts’ new movie “Eat, Pray, Love” has now been announced, and a trailer for the upcoming movie has now been released. But according to webnewswire.com, Hindus appear to be a bit concerned about the authenticity of the depiction of Hinduism in the movie.

Rajan Zed – acclaimed Hindu statesman – issued a statement from Nevada yesterday, saying that Hinduism and its beliefs system are quite often incorrectly depicted outside of India. He then said that he hopes the filmmakers would stick to authentic traditions in this case.

That way, it would avoid any misrepresentation of the already misunderstood religion. While Zed says that Hindus welcome Hollywood to explore the spirituality and rich philosophical thought of Hinduism, he said they would want it taken seriously and also to be depicted authentically.

Rajan Zed the pointed out that if the filmmaker needed any help whatsoever concerning the depiction of Hinduism or the related issues, then he or other Hindu scholars would be happy to help. “Eat, Pray, Love” is being released on August 13th in USA and August 27th in India.

There is good reason to be concerned. Hollywood has generally shown a racist and bigoted image of Hinduism (example: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom). Part of the reason could be that certain religious fundamentalists who belive in global domination and want a one-world religion want to destroy Hinduism and convert them to their intolerant faith. De-humanizing Hindus is part of that strategy. However, in this era when Hindu power is growing exponentially it will prove to be an ill conceived plan which will backfire.
