Ringo Starr on Vatican Forgiveness: ‘A Publicity Stunt’

The Vatican finally decided to forgive the iconic band The Beatles recently, after bearing a grudge for over 40 years. However, former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr says that he doesn’t care about the Vatican’s forgiveness, and claims they have more important things to focus on.

According to rightcelebrity.com, it all started back in 1966 when John Lennon made a comment that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. While it may not have caused such a stir in the UK, the Southern US saw a huge backlash. Some radio stations even banned The Beatles.

But after 44 years, the Catholic Church has decided to extend its forgiveness and embrace the band. Ringo Starr thinks it’s all poppy-cock however, and says that the Vatican forgiveness is most likely a publicity stunt to distract people away from current events that are going on.

“Didn’t the Vatican say we were satanic or possibly satanic – and they’ve still forgiven us? I think the Vatican, they’ve got more to talk about than the Beatles,” Starr said recently. You can read more on this story via the link above. What do you think of Ringo’s comments?

    Well said Ringo.

Surprised Ringo did not take the high road on this one. The Beatles may be the same 4 but after 44 years there is a different Pope.

I'm thinking back to when Lennon made that comment.
I didn't think it was meant as a boast – I had the impression that
he was noting a reality…that people were more attentive
to a rock group then to religious feelings or worship.
Kind of an observation he made-and I think it was true
at a time when a decline in church attendance had begun.
By church I include any places of worship, incidentally as
well as what anyone calls the deity they believe in..

As soon as I saw that the Vatican is forgiving The Beatles I came to the same conclussion as Ringo. It's a smokescreen put up to draw attention away from the real problems inside the Vatican.

Ringo is so right, who really cares what the Vatican thinks about the Beatles I bet if John were alive he would find this to be so ridicules and see right thourgh thier smokescreen! Do pedophile priest ring a bell!

The Catholic Church did not brand the Beatles as satanic or demonic. I am a big fan of the Beatles but Ringo's comment is disappointing. We should always be grateful of gestures of reconciliation and peace. Ironically the Beatles' song are about peace and love. I don't see this in Ringo's comment.
