A recent Entertainment Weekly survey that was conducted has just revealed that Homer Simpson – the stat of the hugely popular long-running animated TV series “The Simpsons” – has been named as the greatest character created for TV and film in the past 20 years.
As reported by Daniel Hubschman at Hollywood.com, Homer Simpson managed to beat the likes of schoolboy wizard “Harry Potter” and even “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” to take top place in the survey. “Harry Potter” come a close second, while “Buffy” came third on the list.

When asked about “The Simpsons’” resonance in pop-culture, the show’s creator Matt Groening had this to say: “People can relate to Homer because we’re all secretly propelled by desires we can’t admit to.” He went on to say that Homer’s love for whatever, is a joy to watch.
The Tony Soprano character was fourth on the list, followed by the late Heath Ledger’s Joker at No. 5 on the list. The remainder of the top 10 includes a mixed bag of characters including Jennifer Aniston’s “Friends” character Rachel Green and “Spongebob Squarepants.”
