Tony Awards 2010: Full Winners List Includes Hollywood Stars

The 64th Annual Tony Awards took place yesterday (Sunday, June 13th), with some of the high-profile awards going to stars that are better known for their work in Hollywood movies. This of course included Denzel Washington, who won the award for Best Actor in a Play.

According to JJ over at zimbio.com, Washington – best known for movies such as “Malcolm X,” “Inside Man,” and “Man on Fire” – won his award for his work in “Fences.” Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson also won an award, for Best Featured Actress in a Play, for “A View from the Bridge.

In several of the categories, the awards pitted a revival of the Broadway favorite “La Cage aux Folles” against the socially-conscious “Memphis.” “Memphis” won the award for Best Musical, while “La Cage aux Folles” won the award for Best Musical revival. The Best Play award was won by “Red.”

“Red” appeared to be the favorite of the night, picking up awards for Best Featured Actor in a Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. The Honorary Award of the night went to Angela Lansbury.
