Jamie Oliver Sets Up Own School: Helping ‘Disaffected’ Children

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is reportedly setting up his very own school, which is to be aimed at helping children who are disaffected with their mainstream education. Speaking about his own schooling, Jamie says he struggled because the teachers didn’t understand his dyslexia.

According to Laura Clark over at dailymail.co.uk, Jamie’s “school with a difference” will help youngsters who like himself suffer from dyslexia, as well as children who have suffered bullying or attended private schools but still haven’t reached their potential.

Following the huge success of his school dinners TV series, Jamie’s new school will form the basis of a brand new Channel Four fly-on-the-wall reality TV show. The school will apparently cater for London-based children, who are aged between 16 and 19 years old.

And being a celebrity chef, food education is expected to be part of the curriculum at the school. Oliver is said to have already devised a cooking course for secondary school pupils, which is worth half a GCSE at grade B. What do you think of Jamie’s latest project?

Great post. There are so many children who struggle with reading and do not get the reading intervention and strategies they need to succeed. Dyslexia awareness is a great cause to put your heart and soul into.
