World Cup 2010 – Third Place Play-Off: Uruguay vs. Germany

As you will all know, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is almost at its end. We only have two more matches to look forward to now, with the first of those matches taking place tomorrow (Saturday, 10th July). This match is the third-place play-off, and will see Germany vs. Uruguay.

As reported over at the official fifa.com website, Germany and Uruguay will both be battling it out for third place in tomorrow’s match, which is taking place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth and kicking off at 20:30 local time (7:30pm UK Time).

World Cup 2010 – Third Place Play-Off: Uruguay vs. Germany

This is actually the second time that Germany and Uruguay have met to battle it out for third place, in a FIFA World Cup. The two teams battled it out at the very same stage of the Mexico 1970, and the Germans ended up taking third place thanks to a solitary 26th-minute goal.

However, Oscar Tabarez’s men won’t be letting the record books concern them. After all, they have exceeded all expectations with Uruguay’s best FIFA World Cup performance since winning the trophy for the second time during the World Cup in Brazil in 1950.

Striker Luis Suarez is returning in tomorrow’s match, following his absence from the semi-final defeat against the Netherlands. As for Germany, the spotlight will no doubt be on Miroslav Klose tomorrow. However, his appearance is now in doubt, following a back injury.
