Yesterday Manchester United legend Paul Scholes announced his retirement from football after an illustrious career with the club. Today what may surprise some is the news that Michael Owen signs for another year at Manchester United.
Many had thought the former England striker would go to another club after his contract finished at the end of the season. Owen found opportunities hard to come by as Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez formed a good partnership in the second half of the season.
It is also thought that Danny Welbeck will be back at the club next season after being loaned out to Sunderland. In a statement on the official club website Owen said “I can’t wait for next season to start.” Sir Alex Ferguson added “I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season.”
The news should still please many united fans as the striker still possesses an eye for a goal, and could prove a vital squad member in a long hard season.
Are you pleased Owen is staying for another year?
