Analysis of new Xbox 360 dashboard disappointment
Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 dashboard “Metro” was not as well received as they had hoped; the Analysis does not look good, as many gamers have been airing their disappointment. It’s not all bad, as there have been a significant number of improvements, but those issues certainly drag the overall user experience down. Depending whom you ask, you will be told of a number of different problems that drag the new dashboard down, and one of them has to be the quality of video playback.
The previous dashboard played videos pretty well, but the latest update has now made playback a little washed out. We had assumed that the likes of Microsoft wanted their console to be a more complete device, so seems strange that they have made an important feature worse than it was before. Some of you might not believe this, but Eurogamer has an interesting comparison of what the new update for the Xbox 360 looks like up against what rivals have to offer.
You can clearly see that there are some color issues and the removal of 1080p playback looks to be a step backwards. Do you believe that Microsoft has made a mistake with Metro in terms of video quality? It’s not hard to see that videos now playback with a limited range of RGB levels, which is the main reason for those washed out colors.
In a video that we have for you below you can see why it’s easy to love the new Xbox 360 dashboard, as it looks slick and the new apps are a great addition. However, it’s once you start to dig a little deeper that the cracks begin to appear. Finding new games to download on the console is a mission in itself, as you have to scroll through a number of tabs and screens to reach your destination. It does seem as though Microsoft is unpromoting this part of the dashboard. Let’s not get too downhearted though, as the voice navigation comes into its own with Kinect.
What are your thoughts on the new Xbox 360 dashboard? So many gamers have been saying what they really think, some suggest that the update is an abomination, while others say that its both horrible and has been designed with smartphone users in mind.
The only thing that I really dont like is the HUGE DAMN GREY BAR covering HALF OF MY THEME. I mean damn I would like to see my theme! At least let us change the colors of the grey bar so it kinda blends in with my theme!
