E3′s PS4 unknown to President

A few days ago it had been suggested that Sony could make some sort of announcement regarding their future games console during E3 2012. However, this news must have slipped Sony Computer Entertainment President, as the PS4 is unknown to him – well he would say that. Andrew House has made it clear that they are not even thinking about the next console, and that might be a good idea.

The reason we say this is because we do not want Sony to rush an announcement just because Nintendo will launch the Wii U later this year and Microsoft might be sharing a little insight regarding their next-gen console. In an interview with CVG, House has been discussing the PS Vita, which has yet to release in the US, but once it does will do all they can to make the device the most popular handheld on the market, although there is a fear that this might be a tougher job than they thought.

E3′s PS4 unknown to President

We should not worry about Sony not making any sort of announcement concerning the PlayStation 4, as the PS3 still has a lot to give. Game developers are making enhancements all the time, so we should still see some fantastic things over the coming year or two before its lifecycle does come to an end.

Sony are in a strange position at the moment, yes there is still a lot to come from the PS3, but as it lost so much money at launch and a couple of years after that, Sony needs to keep selling these devices in order to try and make their money back. However, one would assume that they would still sell millions of these after the PS4 has been released, just like the PS2 does now. We could see the PlayStation 3 being a more affordable console, maybe slashing more than $100 off the price?

However, there is a fear that once Microsoft make their intentions clear, Sony will not be that far behind. Then again, they could wait it out, and play the long game. There is one other thing we need to consider, why would Sony want to talk about the PS4, when they need to put all their effort into making the PS Vita as popular as they possibly can? Speaking of the Xbox, why would Microsoft want to rush anything when sales are still healthy, and Kinect is getting better all the time?
