With Razer’s ‘Project Fiona’ Gaming Tablet, we are looking at something that will show the iPad how to do gaming. Focusing on instantly connecting players in multiplayer games similar to the Xbox Live this machine contains an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor, and will run a custom user interface via an app for a Windows 8 operating system at its core.
As Project Fiona adds to the competition for gaming tablets, Engadget has reported on the gaming tablet that has a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen with a pair of four-button controllers much like the nunchuck that Nintendo and Sony use. CEO Min-Liang Tan said that “the Prototype was made especially for mobile PC gamers and will feature a hybrid user interface to assist gamers instantly join in local multiplayer matches”.

Many of the PC games should be playable without any modifications and developers would have the option of adding Fiona specific controls to a game, such as a touch control scheme, or accelerometer joystick emulation. There will also be enhanced audio features with Dolby Home Theater v4 and built-in force feedback, and Razer are hoping to launch this after Windows 8 launches, for under $1000 in the 3rd or 4th quarter. Fiona’s official press release is available to read on Engadget concerning the Consumer Electronics Show.
Over on Tom’s Hardware a report on the ‘Project Fiona’ Gaming Tablet concept is headlined as awesome and adds to the already increasingly popular smartphone and tablet gaming market. Although this market focuses on the casual gamers and hardcore PC gamers are not interested in games like Angry Birds. Razer says “because of a partnership with Intel, Project Fiona is more like a personal computer”. Razer has not commented on the cost although they are expecting it to be available in the near future.
