When more people started using laptops instead of the traditional desktop PC it brought added benefits, which the biggest was the freedom of movement when computing. At first these portable computers were not as powerful as the desktop alternative, although that changed over time, and now you can pick up an extremely powerful laptop with hardcore graphics and processing power.
In the last few weeks we’ve published a number of news stories about the iPad 3, and leading up to the release date it seems an increasing amount of people are selling/trading in their Xbox 360 and PS3 in preparation for the iPad 3. One reader said “I no longer have a gaming console, I never was a hardcore gamer, but I plan on buying an iPad 3“. This is a pattern we’re seeing with a number of people looking for powerful mobile gaming solutions, although it’s very different to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Just the idea of changing to an iPad instead of a games console would make some hardcore gamers feel sick, and it’s certainly not for everyone, but with the raw power increasing above the Xbox 360, it seems it’s becoming an attractive solution for a growing number of casual gamers.
What benefits do you see gaming on an iPad 3 brings, when compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3? With the next iPad packing a Quad-core (A6 processor) and a display that has more pixels than you’ll find on some high definition televisions, you can understand the appeal to some gamers.
One recent report states that production has already started for the iPad 3, which is due to the Chinese New Year coming this month, so you can expect a release date somewhere in March and an unveil before this, if the latest Apple rumors are to be believed.
Not ready to give up the Xbox 360 and PS3 yet – while we have the luxury to own both an Xbox 360 and PS3, we’ll not be giving up gaming on these consoles just yet, although the iPad 3 may still be a good buy for both mobile gaming and other business related features.
The transition to tablet PC has a way to go yet, and while it certainly offers an alternative to laptops, there is still a lot of work to be done, although we’re sure people in growing numbers are starting to replace laptops and game consoles for iPad’s, how about you?
