Temple Run success, Android desire

If we were to ask you what iOS game has had more than 20 million downloads in just 6 months, we bet you would be surprised to learn that it was Temple Run. The success this game has had has surprised us immensely, so you can understand why Android users now desire it, as it’s currently available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The premise to the game is a simple one; you have to escape the evil monkeys who are chasing you through an ancient temple. Now the game was not as popular in the start as it is now, this was due to the fact you had to paid $0.99. However, the game is now free, and since September the number of downloads have been staggering.

Temple Run success, Android desire

We are told Temple Run has 7 million users active each day, and is currently the number one downloaded game on the App Store, downloads per day exceed 500,000, which we have to say is very impressive indeed. This game has now helped fund the studio, so it will be interesting to see what else they have for us in the future?

To try to put these figures into context, Temple Run has been downloaded more times than there were sales of any PS3 and Xbox 360 title, even Modern Warfare 3. However, if MW3 was free, then we would expect this figure to be much higher.

This is something we should not take lightly, as this article points to the fact that this is a positive for the mobile gaming market, one set to get even bigger. We say this because we know smartphone and tablet makers are improving their hardware all the time, which in turns means mobile game developers will be offering far better games much sooner than you think. If we are to believe some of the rumors regarding the iPad 3, then we could be in for a real treat.

The Facebook page of Temple Run has been very vocal when it comes to an Android version, so a release date in February comes as no real shock. Fans of the app must be pleased, as they have nominated the game as the ‘Best App Ever’ – have to wonder if this is going a little too far – would you agree?

Now we know Android users will want to get their hands on Temple Run now, so you will be interested to learn that there are a couple of apps to help prepare you. A recent article here names Temple Run Fan and Temple Run Cheats + two apps that you should download ready for when the main app becomes available happens.

Should we even worry that a mobile app has been downloaded 20 million times when it’s free? What would the figure be if you still had to pay for it from the start?
