Microsoft’s Kinect device for the Xbox 360 has proved very popular since its launch in November 2010, and as a result has helped sales of the consoles and given it a new lease of life. The idea of being able to control a game just by the movement of your body was a novel one, and now voice has been added to the mix – the possibilities could be endless.
There are a number of games begging for Kinect support, and for some Mass Effect 3 is one of them. During CES a couple of weeks back the game was being tested with voice commands and from what this article suggests, it performed better than expected.

What will make the experience very different to other games with Kinect support is how you still use the controller for playing the game, but you are able to shout your commands out instead. Once you learn the words from the list it could end up being a perfect unison.
In its current state the Kinect support for Mass Effect 3 still has a way to go, as there was said to be some lag; then again this was also the case when we first saw the motion control system at an event ahead of its launch back in 2010, so will only get better given time.
We do fear in the heat of battle you will struggle to shout out the correct command words to your team; things would be much better if the system were able to understand words such as “Get Down” or “Kill Him”, as these are just two of the things you will say if you are being attacked in the game. However, we have to remember Kinect is still in its early stages and we could see these sort of commands come later down the line.
Kinect support is more than a gimmick for Mass Effect 3, and is just another feature to add on what BioWare is about to give us. With just six weeks to go until launch, developers are still making final tweaks to the mechanics of the game. However, one feature wanted more than voice command support has to be multiplayer, as this is the first time such a feature has been brought to the ME series.
How practical will support for Kinect be considering many gamers love nothing more than grabbing a controller and hitting the buttons? However, we have to point out that you will have the choice to turn this feature off – so not as though you will forced into it.
