For the past few years the BlizzCon event has managed to pull in a great crowd for a number of reasons; first is because of what the event means to the fans and second is the headline acts who appear. In 2010 those who attended were treated to a performance by Tenacious D, while last year it was the Foo Fighters job to please the crowd.
BlizzCon 2012 was all set to take place later this year but we recently learned the event has since been cancelled. According to this article it seems Blizzard has favored the release of Diablo 3 over the convention, along with the Battle.net World Championship as well.

Maybe fans should give Blizzard the benefit off the doubt, not only do they have to prepare for the event and the game release above but also Mists of Pandaria and Heart of the Swarm are also due this year? However, we are told BlizzCon will return in 2013; this is the first time they have missed a year since 2006.
This jam-packed year should keep gamers occupied long enough not to miss BlizzCon; not only do they have the release of these new games but also the 2012 Battle.net World Championship taking place towards the end of the year in Asia as well.
Another reason to forgive Blizzard is knowing the show runs at a loss, so much better they use their resources for all what they have going on this year. However, it’s not like they can’t afford it.
There are some gamers who suggest Blizzard are so far behind with these upcoming games that they would not have much to show anyway, as well as being more for the media than the fans. We have to point out this is just the opinion of a select few and most fans believe Blizzard is doing the right thing – do you?
As for the release of Diablo 3, there have been a few reports to suggest the game is not moving in the right direction. The release date never seems to come, as the developers are spending far too long making tweaks and removing features they have already teased us with. Do you think Blizzard has taken on too much in 2012?
