Xbox 720 ethics and game resale security

Since rumors first began regarding the next Xbox, which has been dubbed the 720 amongst others we have heard a great deal of things; knowing which of these will come to fruition is a tough one to predict, as some seem more plausible than others. However, in order for Microsoft to stay ahead of the game they need to go with some radical changes, which could mean coming up with new ethics in order to secure its future.

Since the Xbox 360 and PS3 first launched they have been in a constant battle with each other, both sets of fans believe their system has the better technology. For many gamers it’s hard to separate the two, as they both have their good and bad points. While some may argue the Blu-ray player in the PlayStation 3 was far better than the optical reader in the current Xbox; a recent article suggests the 720 may get the Blu-ray drive.

Xbox 720 ethics and game resale security

This one addition alone could open Microsoft’s next-gen console to a much wider market, as those with the current Xbox could finally throw away their Blu-ray players; however, there will still be some gamers opposed to the idea – unless a much improved reader is used rather than the aging one we see n the PS3 today.

However, this subject seems to be far less important after reading something from the article above, which suggests Microsoft could implement a new feature to help extend the life of the games used on the next-gen console. They have said they do not want to comment on rumor, but it could suggest this could mean an “anti-used game system”. Maybe used games will not play on the new Xbox; as you could imagine this will anger many gamers.

It’s all very well Microsoft trying new ways to force us to purchase a new game to keep publishers happy, but what about those who have already paid hundreds of dollars for a new games console, only to be forced into paying around $60 at a time for a new game instead of hunting down a deal for a used one instead?

Do you feel this is one step too far, or if this rumor is true do you understand why Microsoft might feel the need to take such action?

The power behind the next-gen Xbox has also come into question; it’s been suggested it could be six times as powerful as the current system thanks to the use of the rumored AMD HD 6670 GPU. There are some gamers who believe this is not powerful enough and shows Microsoft are rushing things to beat the PS4 to market. None of this has been confirmed, and we have to remember the Xbox 720 or whatever it will be called might not be announced during E3 this year, and is looking more like a late 2013 release.

Anyone remember DRM? Remember how that went down?

I wonder how quickly the Xbox720 will be chipped and cracked. Apparently PS3 still holds the record as the more secure of the three, so it’ll be nice to see what the Xbox720 will attempt to bring out. There are many people who simply won’t connect it to the internet if needs be just so they can play their used game.

People are going to buy and sell games, unfortunately for Microsoft, this is green for the planet and environmentally friendly. It’s called, recycling and it isn’t going to stop. Regardless of what publishers wish for. As we have already seen, if you bring in tighter regulation, the Market and the Pirates start playing smart. We haven’t yet seen a game resistant to being cracked and we’re not going to see one either.

Although I’m not a supporter of ‘Piracy’ on the whole, I can see how many of the users will not want to pay extra money just so that Microsoft can appease their customers. A good game will bring its own rewards.

I hope the next Xbox is “anti used” so then the console that always should have been number 1 will be which right now should be the ps3 if the 360 cost the Sam as the current PlayStation u already know Sony would have already ran Microsoft out of the gaming wars

It’s not just the used gamer market it stops – how many times has a friend come round your house with a new game you played it and then went out and bought that new title? Or how about when your console dies you buy a new one and you suddenly have to re buy your entire gaming library?

Even if it comes with blu ray, I’m keeping my blu-ray player. If next xbox is going to have problems like the old one did, i don’t wanna stay watching old DVD on DVD player then do I?

    the
AMD HD 6670 GPU for the new xbox is way to weak needs to be at least way more powerful then and pic card out like the last xbox did when it first came out like somthing like dual
    ATI Radeon HD 7970

It wouldn’t really make much of a difference what GPU they put in the console.  They all suck.  The reason why I say they all suck, is because they will be intergrated into the console.

I think they should make two consoles.  Console 1:  The pathetic console that they always make and does nothing.
Console 2:  It costs more, but actually has good hardware in that does the job.  And you can also upgrade it in the future.

    -.- Console 2: GET A PC.

Seriously. Consoles have decent hardware that runs the games as necessary. It is not the Console maker at fault but the programmers for not programming correctly. As it is, Middle East countries (I shall not name them) and Far East countries (I won’t name them either) are using Playstation 3 bits to make nukes. PS3 + Uranium = Sony sponsored Nuclear Warhead. *shrug*

One advantage that a console has over a PC is that it is stable. If you purchase a shop bought pc you are simply buying a console and when you upgrade it then it becomes a pc. However a console cannot be upgraded (at least not easily) thereby making it stable for Game Makers to actually make games for it. This is why there has been a marked reduction in games produced for Windows PC (specifically) because the programmers find it easier to make games for Xbox & sony consoles.

At the time of conception the PS3 had outstanding hardware. It’s still pretty good, but now there is better. It has also dropped in price significantly as technology prices have dropped >_>

Uh, have you looked at the price differences? Do you know how much it is going to cost to make a console compatible with the Radeon instead of Athelon? The AMD 6670 is suitable for what will be put onto it games wise.

Mostly because games rarely challenge let alone max out the GPU…we also have this problem that games rarely use more than one core >_> although they’re getting better.

That’s a very interesting point, but then, that’s where piracy comes in! >=D
