There’s no denying the huge success Nintendo has had with their Wii console, and one of the main reasons would be due to the novel way it got gamers to interact. That success was measured not only by massive sales, but how the likes of Microsoft and Sony took the idea and came up with different technologies for their consoles. Having said that, the little white device was a long way behind when it came to an online presence, which is why Nintendo is now striving to offer a network for the Wii U.
You will be pleased to know Nintendo looks to be doing a good job and could finally offer a service worthy of competing with Xbox Live and PSN – well in time anyway. A recent investor presentation has revealed the infrastructure is now ready for a Nintendo Network and will only benefit those who decide to purchase the upcoming Wii U console.

Those with a 3DS will also benefit from the new service, which could help drive up sales. It’s hard to say at this time if the 3DS and Wii U will be able to communicate as well as the PS Vita and PS3 does, although we are not certain if they have any plans to fully support full game downloads. However, they have now begun to make demo versions of upcoming games available for download.
There has already been a huge response by the fans regarding this latest news from Nintendo. One IGN reader has said this is a blatant copy of another service; but some gamers will agree that this service will be a little behind PSN. However, we have seen time and again how Nintendo can come out fighting and adapt.
There are a few gamers who suggest Nintendo is copying rivals, but we need to remind them how the likes of Microsoft and Sony they have copied the rumble controller from the N64 and the motion controller used on the current Wii console?
On the subject of the Wii U console, there have been suggestions the screen on the touchscreen controller could have been upgraded to support NFC. While the screen is unable to support this in its current form, an article here suggests it could happen and if it does then gamers could interact with a game far more than they do now. An example of this is taking a Pokemon figurine and placing it on the screen of the Wii U controller, this would then allow that character to appear in the game on your main display.
While this is all speculation, it shows the potential of Nintendo’s new console, which is due for launch later this year. There is a fear the release could not go well, but the Japanese console maker is determined not to make the same mistakes as they did with the launch of the 3DS.
