PS3 process for Skyrim 1.4 patch confuses

Most Skyrim users know that patch 1.4 is due this week on the PC, although considering the slight delay from an expected release in January we should be prepared for more delays if Bethesda run into problems. Console gamers also expect the Skyrim 1.4 update this week, although it might not be that straight forward.

We looked at the history of patch releases in an earlier article, which showed a pattern from PC beta to PS3 and Xbox 360 release. Considering the 7/8-day wait between PC beta and consoles after Microsoft and Sony certify the update, so we expected that it was likely the update had already been handed out for certification.

PS3 process for Skyrim 1.4 patch confuses

Skyrim creation kit and patch 1.4 delays – following the news that the creation kit had not kept with the initial release expectations, which some say had been confirmed by Bethesda for January, we now know that patch v1.4 is coming this week although the creation kit would be after this. This news has confused some Skyrim users, especially considering Bethesda said the update will be “sent to console manufacturers” in the current week.

If the patch got sent to Sony and Microsoft this week, when should the PS3 expect lag and frame rate issues to be fixed? It’s the view of some people that certification only takes a couple of days, and past patches seem to back this claim, which means the PS3 and Xbox 360 could get patch 1.4 this week if the update had been sent to the appropriate people at the start of the week.

So with this in mind it’s possible consoles might have to wait until next week for the next patch, if certification starts late this week. We must remember this is just speculation based on past events and a few statements officially from Bethesda, although we only have a few days left to find out if your issues will be fixed this week. Feel free to share any bugs you’ve found in Skyrim below.

You might want to see this forum, which highlights the confusion certain gamers are feeling over the PS3 process for Skyrim patch 1.4. Some users correctly point out that it doesn’t “take weeks to get certification“, although concerns come on the timing of a PSN store update and time Sony takes to get everything certified. There is a small window to get everything done this week, and this can easily be missed.

Further frustration and addiction can be seen in our earlier article that looks at the different types of Skyrim players. Do you expect the PS3 and Xbox 360 to get patch 1.4 this week?

UPDATE: A recent tweet by MW3′s Robert Bowling touched on patch 1.08 that has entered certification with Sony for the Call of Duty game, and while he explained it’s hard to tell how long this takes he did say it’s around a “2 week process“. With this in mind it’s safe to say that it could take this long for the next Skyrim patch to make its way to PS3. We’ll update you when we get more clarity on this.

The game is very enjoyable as it is right now, the PS3 lag starts to hit only if your game session is longer than a couple of hours. I never saw the “Backwards dragons”… I think people is over reacting. I expect the update to come when it’s ready. I’d rather wait another month for a quality product instead of having another mediocre fix this week.

  • Matt2u2

I agree with what the last poster said in regards to being patient and making sure the patch works as expected. However I am still concerned about the possibility of the 1.4 patch opening the door to other problems? Only time will tell.

  • Dragan

Your obviously lucky then because many people experience lag right from when they turn on their PS3′s and start playing. I myself am rarely getting smooth frame rates even when I’m out in the open map just walking(maybe 25 frames tops). At first it was great but slowly started degrading as I continued playing. Hopefully the  patch gets released in two weeks time and actually does solve more problems than cause, big one obviously being lag.

  • Mombasa69

Beta patch 1.4.21 is available for the PC, can’t see why console can’t have beta patches too. I’m really annoyed about there being no creation kit too, why do Bethesda do this to us, and not keeping us informed properly?

We are good paying customers and need to be treated better, we do pay their wages after all.

  • RadioheadFreak

Bethesda shouldn’t let people wait for patches, for a lot of PS3 users the game is broken and they already gave Bethesda their hard earned cash, why do they have to wait?

  • Proudscousr

mine crashes as soon as it begins everytime now so i cant play it at all and im only level 52

  • Moosemunch

So no actually date for the patch release, just keep us guessing and WAITING!!!!. What a terrible attitude to have towards your customers. I adore this game but will think twice about where my hard earned cash goes for such disgraceful service. SHAME ON YOU BETHESDA!

  • Kaden101

This game is not enjoyable as it is right now. It crashes within 10 minutes of loading a game, & corrupts my PS3 file system. Lag & backwards flying dragons are the least of my worries. I haven’t been able to play this game for over 2 months for fear it’s going to break my console + with only 10 minutes play time before it hard freezes, & having to turn autosave off to get it to last that long, what’s the point?

This piece of crap should never have been released as is. They need to a get a patch out that actually fixes this waste of a disc, & quickly.

I will not be going near another Bethesda game in the future. At least, not until it’s been out at least 6 months, & I’ve checked online forums/articles to make sure the blinking thing actually works. I don’t care how amazing it is, or how many positive reviews it’s got.

I guess it’s back to playing any other game that actually works flawlessly.

  • tora05

I bought a brand new car today, turned it on and the speedometer didn’t work, was missing 2 tires, and the car leaked oil. The dealership said the rest of the car was still being designed, that I should give it a week.

Just bought a new house. Paid in full for a complete job. Moved in and half the roof was missing. Construction workers said they will get around to fixing it next month.

Bought a movie ticket, sat down. 15 minutes into the movie a black screen displays a caption “Still filming, will release next 15 minute installment soon.”

Tell me you have patients for these….I say you are a liar.

  • HqNnEz

Dude it’s probably something with your playstation or your CD, no need to blame the developers for it.

  • Kaden101

Did you not read the last line of my last comment. I’ll make it even clearer. It plays “EVERY” other game flawlessly.

I could count the amount of times my PS3 has crashed in the 3+ years I’ve owned it on my fingers (mainly due to PlayTV 2.02 which has now been solved). It crashed more times in the week & a half I got out of Skyrim than I can keep count of (at least 40). I’ve had to recover the file system twice, & delete the installation files & patches for Skyrim multiple times just to get the damn thing working.

It’s on every day. PlayTV records glitch free. Blu-Rays work perfectly. Trust me, the console purrs along like a kitten, & there’s zero problems with any component in that console.

I’ll blame the developers because they coded a piece of junk that doesn’t work properly, & then left me with coffee coaster for 2 months.

  • Qwynn

I swera to you, I used basically this same analogy a week ago when talking to someone about how riculous the problems with this game are.  So I totally agree with you.  We shouldn’t have to have patience

  • Oakdarocha

A dude with no fingers could count the times the PS3 I own has crashed in the past 3 years – never. Then Skyrim came along – I have had to hard set the console dozens of times. Its not the console, the port to PS3 was crap and the game wasn’t tested for this console beyond the 6MB data file limit.

  • Kim Jolicoeur

The certification process is executed by Sony, not Bethesda, once the patch is submitted.
Also, patches are free. So be patient and it will come your way.

  • Kim Jolicoeur

Consoles gamers must wait because the patches are developped on PC and do not require certification on PC.
The certification process takes a couple of weeks, and once the patch is submitted to Sony, the ball is in their court, not Bethesda.

    Also, patches are free.

  • Kaden101

Patches may be free, but they shouldn’t release a faulty product in the first place. Should I now pay for them to fix their broken piece of crap?

  • Anonymous

I second that. Big shame on Bethesda, which has to be the biggest con-artist in the business at this point. It’s possible that gamers will have to wait over three months for Bethesda to fix a product they knew was broken.
This should be illegal, but I guess it’s not…

  • Anonymous

That’s hardly the point. When you buy a product, you expect it work. And Bethesda, given their mandatory and extensive testing before release; must have known the game was broken. Perhaps they thought it was an easy fix, I don’t know..
Add the fact that a huge percentage of customers have been reporting a broken product for almost three months, it’s an outrage that it still hasn’t been fixed. With Bethesda, the customer is never right.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XQUF57OVEP5NDEZGQKK36GXGXM Braddy!

Bethesda better make sure those patches are at least decent when they release it sometime soon. At the same time I know many players that are angry that they kept spouting off January release.  I knew somehow they didn’t have time to finish it in a month.  I don’t care what date they release it, I just want them to stop giving a time frames and just let customers know they are working on it.

I am very angry about how buggy this game is.  I am at a point now where quests cannot be finished without cheating through the console or typing codes just to get from point A – point B. I never encountered a pc game with this many problems besides Everquest in the past 16 years of pc gaming. The list of bugs in Skyrim goes on from there. Right now I am at a point where I kind of moved on to playing other games like Diablo 2 while I wait for 3 release.  Now the Creation Kit was what I was really waiting for and no word when that will get released.  This is a shame to Bethesda, you promise too much.

  • Giving2cents

Shame on you Bethesda ! You see us consumers as a lowly iliterate game addicted people who does not deserve good quality product since we contributed nothing to mankind. You see us fatass sitting on a couch 18 hours a day eating chips from bags and going duhhh. Shame on you. We are a little better than that !

  • Michael

The shame should be on the ignorant. Obviously not everyone is encountering the same bugs and without seeing them how can they fix them, even with what people insult them about rather than being constructive. I have had a rather smooth experiance with only very minor bugs and im sure the same can be said for others. The bugs Bethesda have encountered were fixed prior to the games release, and no game in history has ever been completly bug free.

  • Colinrust

the game should be compleated on all consoles during testing so that they know what all the bugs are before release dates. new vagas was the same. if this was a building contract that was this riddled with problems. trading standards would be all over us and we would be shut down quicker the a rat up a drainpipe…..!!! the guverning bodys should review this company asap

  • AreYouSerious

You know Bethesda, I am a very patient person. I am  professional graphic designer, student. I work at a hospital. This is completely ridiculous and unacceptable, what a bunch of slobs. Do NOT release something until its finished. if I as a designer, would have behaved in such a manner, half assing and sending out things half complete I’d be fired. NOT impressed.

  • Kim Jolicoeur

You won’t need to pay for fixing the game. Patches are
    free!

People also seem to be forgetting that every IP on
consoles are submitted to the manufacturer for certification, not just the
    patches.

    Bethesda
submitted Skyrim to Sony, who tested it against their certification process and
the game passed. Otherwise it would not be available in stores right now.

Perhaps Sony didn’t go far enough in the game. I know
they test the memory usage on games, but maybe their process does not cover
this particular issue with Skyrim on PS3.

My point is that it’s not entirely Bethesda’s fault that Skyrim doesn’t run well
on PS3. I’m 110% sure that the game was tested EXTENSIBLY by their QA staff,
and I’m 110% sure that they cut a few corners to release it on 11.11.11.

But Skyrim is VERY stable on PC, and much more stable
on Xbox 360 than PS3. This tells me it’s more a Sony issue than Bethesda’s QA.

Some developers (Blizzard, Bioware – before EA took
over at least) prefer to postpone release to work out the bugs, others prefer
to release as expected and release patches later so they can get a return on
their investment sooner or as expected.

You either wait for the release, or wait for patches,
    which are free.

The lesson is: Ease up on energy drinks and learn to be
    patient. ;)

  • Guy With Tacos

Quite a contradiction, considering your statement made you seem illiterate and unintelligent.
Might be worth it to review your elementary spelling.

  • Davidhritchie

I concur, that is the reason I bought the PS3 verision instead of the X-Box.  I didn’t want to have to deal with the lag times..  My rule of thumb is too always buy used games, but I bought this “pre release date”  I wonder if we all return these games to Game Stop and demand a refund if that would get Bethesda”s attention?

  • Guy With Tacos

You’re a graphic designer, student, who works at a hospital?
    Hospitals fire graphic designers?
Also, you must not have much experience as a gamer..
EVERYONE sends out games with bugs, it’s inevitable, no one can send out a perfect game that has absolutely NO bugs, and be on schedule.
    Now gtfo.

  • Azraelscript

The game IS very enjoyable, like Nord Reginald says. It’s been the only game in my PS3 since 11/11/11. The analogical replies don’t hold any weight. The car, the house, and the movie are not good examples. For one, why would you buy a car with no tires and a house with a roof missing? A house with termites perhaps or a car with a defective airbag. Those things aren’t noticeable on the surface. I’ve questioned the various methods of play-testing prior to release, but this is not a linear game therefore the results of various gamers style have different effects. I’ve had no backward flying dragons either, but I have quests I can’t complete and plaques I can’t hang weapons on. I have almost 500 hours and haven’t seen half of the problems I constantly read about, so how could bethesda, upon finishing the game’s programming, discover every glitch in a game of this magnitude? Skyrim didn’t come without a title screen, no sound, or with headless Dovakhiin, so the analogies may sound witty but fall short by a mile.

  • Guy With Tacos

You’re right, Bethesda should magically fix the game without a patch, especially for PS3 owners, because they’re more important. Kudos. Idiot.

  • Guy With Tacos

    ^ This.
Too many of you people are quick to chime in and blame bethesda for every little problem, acting all along as if they’re the only company to ever release a game with bugs..

    GTA (Entire series)
    Mercenaries 2
    Assassin’s Creed (Entire Series)
    Final Fantasy (MMOs)
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Entire Series)

    And the list goes on..

All of these games were buggy on release, ALL of them, and many, many, MANY more.

Fact is, you boohoo over a game being buggy for a few months, Mercs 2 on pc was NEVER fixed, at least beth is putting forth the effort to fix something for their customers, even though it was someone else’s job to pick up on the problem in the first place.

  • AreYouSerious

no, nice try big guy, I have 2 jobs, hospital and design. u mad, bro?

  • AreYouSerious

Looks like ‘ guy with tacos ‘ is either a raving dirty diaper fanboy or a disgruntled bethesda employee ;-)

  • guest

Why thousands of people on hundreds of forums are blaming Bethesda??? Do you think your words hurt them? Return the game. Don’t make a scene of that, just return the game. Buy it later, when it is fully patched (and at that time with a discount I’m sure).

  • Spfalk1

I thought I would have learned to wait to buy games till I was sure they were working well with no significant issues or had been patched. And every time I fail to wait long enough.

  • AreYouSerious

oh , but words DO hurt them. they are slowly destroying their own reputation, its not our fault. ;)

  • Kim Jolicoeur

First, you can’t return a game that’s already open, unless there is a defect and you exchange it for the same thing. It’s a 90-day warranty thing.

Also, why would you return a game to buy it again 3-4 months later in order to have the latest patch? Just keep it, play what you can and wait for patches, no?

  • bigfatshady

    Great analogies!

  • Kim Jolicoeur

    Pretty bad examples:

    “I bought a
brand new car today, turned it on and the speedometer didn’t work, was missing
2 tires, and the car leaked oil. The dealership said the rest of the
car was still being designed, that I should give it a week.”

    Why did you
buy it? Couldn’t wait a week? Live with it.

“Just bought a new house. Paid in full for a complete job. Moved in and half
the roof was missing. Construction workers said they will get around to fixing
    it next month.”

    Sue the
contractor and wait 3 years, or wait in your crappy apartment for another
    month.

“Bought a movie ticket, sat down. 15 minutes into the movie a black screen
displays a caption “Still filming, will release next 15 minute installment
    soon.”

    Was it a
    Uwe Bold movie?

“Tell me you have patients for these….I say you are a liar.” I don’t have
    patients, no…

    No game is
released in Alpha, Skyrim is no exception.

    How many complaining
gamers have lvl 52 characters and 100+ hours logged?

    Seems like
a pretty complete game to me.

  • owen13

PS3 Skyrim owner here and it seems pretty clear to me that Bethesda likely underestimated the resource requirements needed as the game was made bigger and bigger with greater detail, graphics, etc.  At some point they definitely knew that this would have serious problems running on PS3 after 6-10MB save file size but somebody decided the PS3 release still had to happen at the same time as the others.  I don’t understand the impatience part though.  We don’t know how long it will take them to “fix” what could be a multitude of minor and major issues.  However, I do agree that Bethesda shouldn’t be making hard date promises if they aren’t sure they can be met.  I still really enjoyed the game but definitely was frustrated at knowing I had to waste probably an additional 20% of actual time saving, shutting down to free up memory and restarting, reloading and, of course, dealing with freezes from tie to time in spite of doing that on a regular basis.  Hope the patch addresses the issue at least somewhat well as there are plenty of things I’d like to play around with but just can’t right now because it’s too much waiting vs play.

  • smarterthenyou

     dumbass

  • Come on Bethesda!

    Great. -.-
    Another week without skyrim.
Anyone having the same issues I am?
I can’t buy anything from merchants.
    I can’t complete a single quest.
New dragon shouts will not absorb properly
Talking to anyone shows no dialogue?
    Come on bethesda.
    I need help!

  • smarterthenyou

professionals in the industry shouldnt be relyin on patches to make there game work i mean seriously,DUMBASS.

  • Jffiv27

Its out on pc as of 20 minutes ago…still waiting for it on ps3

  • Thomas

No ‘guy with tacos’ is right

  • GunzTheGr856

As much as I’m looking forward to this long awaited patch I’m ready for dlc or at the very least some new information about which direction Bethesda is going with Skyrim DLC

  • Csvl64

Do you know the people in Bethesda? As I recall they are still gamers working the game they imagined making and I can see your like the game also.If you waited for Skyrim you can wait for several more days! You cant blame bethesda for ps3 arhcitecture fail due to sony fault not listening to developers.360/PC is still an industry standard when making a game faster, cheaper, and easier.

  • Kaden101

I wish I could get anywhere near level 52.

I should be able to play a game I paid for to completion. I shouldn’t have to workaround shitty coding just to get 10 minutes play out of the thing before it crashes out.

Car example – you can test drive a car before buying to make sure it works. You can’t test drive a game.

House example – you can get a survey done before purchasing. None of the reviews initally stated how serious the problems with the PS3 version are, & Bethesda certainly didn’t mention it. Wonder why?

Uwe Bold was your best retort? Really?

& no, I don’t expect to be sold a beta copy, & to say that no game is released as an Alpha is just insulting to all the developers that release high quality entertainment. Just because Craptivision get away with it for Modern Warfare doesn’t mean every games publisher should be able release half finished tat that doesn’t work. Very few games get released in the same shoddy condition that Skyrim was, & most of them are Bethesda games anyway. It’s become normal to accept some bugs in games on release, but there’s got to be a limit to the crap we have to pay our money for.

  • Kaden101

At it’s most basic level it should function within reasonable tolerances. Constant crashes, screwing my consoles file system up, & game breaking frame rates issues for a lot of people (I’ve only had flickbook framerate once, it was hilariously bad) are not acceptable things to be in a product released for sale.

  • Kaden101

Yeah, but very few games are release completely borked, & the ones anywhere near this bad are invariably Bethesda games.

  • Kaden101

Paying for patches? I was being sarcastic.

I’m sorry, it is Bethesdas fault it’s knackered. They made the thing. Nobody else is to blame. If it wasn’t working, it shouldn’t have been released.

I’m happy for you that it’s stable on the PC (I’m being sarcastic again), but I didn’t buy the PC version, & I expect something I paid money for to work. Doesn’t matter what platform a game is being made on, it should still function.

If I knew it was crash central before I bought it, I wouldn’t have bought it. Everybod said it was amazing. It isn’t.

I think 2+months to get a working product for money that I’m no longer gaining interest on isn’t an unreasonable level of patience by any sane persons standards. I think 2+ months is a perfectly reasonable level of time to run out of patience.

I don’t do energy drinks. My feelings towards Bethesdas’ incompetence fuels my Rage plenty. That & lots of coffee helps.

  • Kaden101

Have always been able to play every GTA game I’ve bought from beginning to end.

    Never played Mercenaries 2.

Have always been able to play every Assassin’s Creed game I’ve bought from beginning to end.

Have always been able to play every Final Fantasy game I’ve bought from beginning to end.

Put plenty of hours into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on the PC, & it was a bit rough, but not Skyrim rough.

Bethesda should have put the effort into fixing it before they sold it to their customers.

  • Kaden101

Shouldn’t need a patch to make it actually work. Patches should make it work better, the relevant word there is “better”.

Couldn’t think of anything more productive to say, so resorts to calling people idiot. Mature, real mature.

  • Kaden101

One of his posts had to be I suppose. Law of probability. If you bang your head on a wall long enough, eventually a brick will get loose.

  • Kaden101

I can blame them for making a game on architecture they don’t have a clue how to code for. If they don’t know how to program for a PS3, they shouldn’t program for a PS3. Either issue it to a 3rd party who does, or just don’t release it for that platform. At least then I wouldn’t be out of pocket.

  • Kaden101

We don’t expect NO bugs. We just expect a product that works. That’s apparently too much to ask for in the games industry. Every other form of industry manages to release products that work. Should we hold games companies to lower standards?

You don’t seem to get that we paid money for something that is currently unusable.

  • Kaden101

I was with you right until your last sentence.

Can’t play, won’t play. Unplayable. Paid money for something that doesn’t want to play.

  • Kaden101

Oh god no. Don’t get them distracted by DLC that will knacker the framerates up even further. Have you not heard of the Fallout 3 DLC issues? Now, who made Fallout 3 again?

  • Giving2cents

In reply to people who have replied to me: Bethesda is a car company that sells you a car and then you realized that a piston is missing. The car lags and coughed for weeks as you waited for Bethesda to mail you another piston. But meanwhile you have to drive that one less piston car you fully paid for or take a bus. When the piston arrived, you installed the piston and then realized that it is missing several valves. Go Bethesda !! Love your games and the side quests waiting for the patches.

  • Dragonwire

I just platinumed Skyrim on PS3. I experienced lag here and there. No big deal. Also had some bugs that was nothing a couple forums didn’t fix. This game is by far my favorite ever. Considering the magnitude of this game, I can’t complain. The only big that I could not work around was the ability to sell collectables to Delvin. Im hoping the update will let me complete his collection. I simply put then in a chest so I can sell them to him later. Love you Bethesda! Always impressed.

  • Illusion

While not a Bethesda employee, I am a software engineer for a large company, so let me throw in my two cents.  If software companies waited until a product was finished to release, some software would never be released.  Unfortunately, a project has several phases (requirements, design, development, unit testing, quality assurance testing, user assurance testing, production staging, production, etc) and each of those phases has a cost associated with it.  Any software development firm has to set deadlines and work within the timeframes given to meet those deadlines else huge overruns in budget and human capital occur.  Now, one can say that the development process was flawed; however large source bases will have bugs, you can’t escape it.  That is why there are QA and UA test teams.  So, did the QA and UA test teams fail?  Maybe, but again, you have a limited number of resources attempting to replicate what [potentially] millions of users are going to be doing on an ongoing basis.  While this does not excuse Bethesda, it does show that they could have added more time into the schedule given the grand scale of this project and reached out more in a UA test scenario, and a grander Beta test perhaps with the public.  Quite frankly, I am impressed.  This software supports multi-threading capabilities to drive an in-house developed graphics engine, an in-house developed AI engine, and the core game engine itself.  I would love to see how many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lines of code are in this beast.

  • B5822012

    will patch 1.4 fix the freezes……………….. -_-

  • Kim Jolicoeur

“to say that no game is released as an Alpha is just insulting to all the developers that release high quality entertainment.”

Do you even know what a game in alpha stage is?

NO GAME IS EVER RELEASED IN ALPHA.

Bethesda is getting flak for ONE particular bug on PS3 that they are having trouble fixing. If they can’t/won’t, they should absolutely give you your money back and to every other gamer who spent money on it.

Yes, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Morrowind were all very buggy on release, even on PC. However today, all those games play flawlessly on every console they were released on.

    I do understand your frustration.

There was a time when patches were non-existant on consoles, and yes the games were less buggy, but release dates kept being pushed, because they would fail certification and had to go through more QA tours of duty.
However when consoles integrated networks and download possibilities, it gave distributors the opportunity to get a return on their investment sooner, all the while providing impatient gamers their game.
With shoddy quality being fixed for free over time, every body SHOULD be happy, right?

  • Smashderby

everyone who own this game needs to return it, its not worth the full price with as many problems this game has, wait till price drops under $40.00 to repurchase it.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XVY64IXUHEQVKUNWSC7KXO7KI4 gunzilla

Im close to 200 hours on my original char on PS3 and it still plays like it did on day one. I have a PS3 40gb with a 320gb HDD in it.
My Skyrim started doing what others have described with long loading times, stuttering, and a host of other weird stuff. I thought save file had something to do with it so I made a new char and it was WORSE, it even froze my PS3 within 10 minutes of starting.
So I cleaned up my HDD, a few demos and video’s, nothing major. Not only did it make Skyrim run like it did on day one, GTAIV and Dragon Age run better too. I hope this helps, if it doesn’t you have my sympathies.

For PS3 owners, Skyrim started locking up on me on almost every load screen making the game almost unplayable.  This started when the save file size surpassed 6mb.  After reading suggestions on some forums, I turned off all autosaves and stopped saving on top of old save files, creating a new save file each time.  When I’m done playing for the night I have to go in and delete a lot of saves so the PS3 doesn’t get too cluttered, but this fixed all of my problems.  The games seems to run faster as well getting rid of any lag issues. I haven’t had one game freeze since doing this. I do have to remember to save frequently now or risk losing a lot of play time, but this workaround works for me right now.  Kind of a pain but this game is still awesome!  Hope this helps someone.

I haven’t got anything against patches themselves. What I have got something against is them taking the mick & releasing games that don’t work. It’s getting worse this gen, & it’s really not on. We’re paying customers & should get value for our money, not ripped off.

Once a game goes gold, it should work without trying to break your console, or being unplayable.

  • Kaden101

I tried that. I have an 80gb with a 320gb hdd in it. Deleted over 100gb of data. Didn’t make a jot of difference.

Glad it worked for you though (I’m not being sarcastic…I know…hard to believe).

  • Kaden101

Tried that as well. Again, no difference. It’s still crash happy.

  • Kim Jolicoeur

You’re right about the games on this generation of consoles.

I really think we pay for sub-par products so that the producers (NOT devs…) can get a faster return on their investments.

Also, games go gold when they pass the manufacturer’s certification process, which does not mean they are bug free.

We can be thankful that patches exist though, I remember a time when a buggy game stayed that way forever.
However game-stopping bugs were very rare.

It boggles down to wait for release or wait for patches.

Lastly, as long as they don’t start charging us for patches, I don’t think we can consider ourselves ripped off.

“All we need is just a little patience”.

  • Tyler

I haven’t been able to play skyrim for a near month.
    I can’t do anything?
Merchants will not sell to me.
Quests can not be started or finished.
New parts to dragon shouts will not be learned
    Any ideas?
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
I have already tried emailing bethesda.

  • Pnathan28

your character is glitched out, the only fix is reloading an earlier save file and deleting the current one.

  • Tyler

I don’t have any previous saves.
And I’m too far to restart man.

  • Tyler

It just randomly glitched one day and the game became unplayable.
But my save is something like 15mb and I read that if it’s over 6 people
    Have been having issues.
Hopefully the patch will clear all that up. :/
    Who knows.
There isn’t a legit reason why my game should be like this though.

  • James

yea but i dunno bout you but when i get into a game the thought better stop and save dosnt enter my head plus the autosaves the only thing that saves me when it frezzes or lags to bad

  • James

still you wouldnt sell a plane with a missing wing would ya

  • James

yup a free patch a year after :P

  • runes tales on amazon kindle

Any news on what the dlc is yet

  • Lame

Love it to see people crying all day long about this game, shouting that bethesda fails or tell them they need to shame on their selves, the funniest thing is IT DOESNT help to blame bethesda for their mistakes.
Its normal that people can make mistakes so they can learn from it.
Being rude to bethesda DOESNT help anything, and you can always cry or argue about the patch takes to long, but wait a sec…
You want a game that works right? Then START being patient so that besthesda can release a patch that repairs the game.
Or tell them to make it quick and then when the patch is finally there, you still have problems.
They are taking their time so they can fix this game so they don’t have to update it again.. And so that their custumors can play their game WITHOUT any more bugs/glitches.. So just be patient and stop whining, it doesn’t make anything better fag’s..
You all act like bethesda wanted to do this well they don’t i can tell you that otherwise they wouldn’t work on updates.

  • Guest

that’s why you have multiple saves…
It’s happened to me like 4 times on the PS3 my file is like 11 MB i had to stop playing like 2 months ago cuz i had too much lag i couldn’t do anything and it would glitch out all time and had to go back to a prev save there was one time i got stuck in a dungeon and all my auto saves were inside there lost like 4 hrs game time

hopefully 1.4 will fix this so i can put another 150 hrs into it esp whenever the new dlc comes out

  • serb

    Same problem

  • Tyler

Well the lag isn’t my issue at this point.
It can be annoying after a while.
But I contacted Bethesda about that.
There’s a Bunch of ways to fix that along with
    the 1.4 patch.
I’m more concerned if this is going to let me
    play again.
    I’m level 62.
There’s no way I’m starting over with the possibility of this happening
    again.
    I can’t do anything.
Quests will not start or complete.
    Merchants will not sell.
I’m really hoping 1.4 will fix this!

  • Justingilbert52

it would be really nice if the update would come out sometime before the world ends

  • Anonymous

Bethestda, i have paid for my copy of skyrim which is now unplayable on my ps3. If its not fixed i will do the best a random gamer can do to try to provoce a boycott towards your company.

  • Anonymous

Be patient? the game has been broken since release.

  • Xaioxaiofan

O.o Over 6mb? mine’s 16mb Level 68 and I can’t finish the Forsworn Conspericy AND I have 5 save files just in case.

  • Xaioxaiofan

And over 200 hours gameplay so screw restarting.

  • Xaioxaiofan

    Most of them.

  • Xaioxaiofan

The fallout DLC’s on the game of the year edition lagged but the ones I got off the psn were fine.

  • Xaioxaiofan

If it wasn’t a shitty port from XBOX it would run fine.

  • Xaioxaiofan

I’m sure it won’t take 100 billion years to patch one game.

  • bethesdasucks.com

you idiot. bethesda is on the verge of costing millions of skyrim fans a lot of money!!!

  • Kaden101

2+ months to use something I paid for is showing plenty of patience. I’ve kinda run out.

  • Kaden101

I’m not suggesting it’s not a complicated piece of software. That doesn’t excuse it not working 2+ months after release

  • Kaden101

You want us to be patient. Isn’t 2+ months patient enough. I paid money for this crap.

  • Kaden101

     I was beginning to wonder.

  • Donnie

Valves are a part of the piston? Interesting… I’ve been turning wrenches on vehicles for  over 15 years now and never knew that!

    [/sarcasm]

Besides, you forgot about the transmission that only shifts between reverse and first gear and occasionally gets stuck in park of its own volition.

  • ps3 guy

sleep let the in game days pass 30 days and restart your system this
will clean things up in your skyrim like dead bodies. also do not use the
    the book shelf

  • Tyler

As much as I’d like to take into consideration
” Bethesda didn’t actually intentionally make skyrim
    this way ”
You can’t help but be pissed that this is not fixed or
    1.4 isn’t atleast released yet.
I havent been able to play skyrim for a near month.

  • Jffiv27

    I have horrible interaction delays

  • Tyler

    I like your style.

  • Skyrimmed

16mb save file and my ps3 is all cleaned out. Still lags like a fruit loop and glitches like crazy. So I thought i’d pass the time waiting for the new patch by playing an old game. FFXIII (I know, it’s not exactly the best of em) but low and behold, i’m at the end of the game and my save files have never been above 450kb. I understand the interactivity of skyrim creates all this extra data, but jesus, the environments aren’t even destructible, and everything is scripted to how it plays out. All the experiences you can have in skyrim are finite to a degree, so I hope this patch fixes that stupid saveeverylittlebitofdata problem. Fallout 3 and new vegas had the same probs too, but nowhere near as bad. It’s like they tried to pour five litres of water into a two litre bucket, and expect it to hold it all.

  • Sad_at_bethesda

Just because it doesn’t help to complain doesn’t mean we won’t do it. The squeaky wheel gets the oil and if the wheel doesn’t squeak the problem doesn’t get fixed.

  • Timothygoodfellow

i’ll join you on that ZzZ. It would be much easier if Skyrim didn’t have such promise as a great game but i can’t play it anyway. Fix your S*** Beth!!!!!!!

  • 101patrick101

    why?…………..
    are we here again?
Its the same ol sit down, roll around chewed up pen

isnt thrilling me too much, yeah..

    Alice in chains

  • You people know nothing

Holy crap, 90% of you all are complete morons. Have any of you people complaining against Bethesda programmed a game? NO. So how dare you sit on your lard butts at your keyboard and type these insults with your sausage fingers when you have NO IDEA what is going on.

  • Occultist

Such an amazing, inspiring game, breathtaking, really. too bad the game is a slideshow, it isnt fun anymore. You cant blame people for complaining, the game is literally unplayable after about 60 hours on the PS3.. I’d hope that Bethesda does not need validation from others to feel good and confirm their existence. Although maybe they do??  let’s hope they are more Objective towards reality and tougher skin than that. ;)

  • QuickTwitch

    LMAO agreed @58b21dd13011de2af83271800a338ca9:disqus

  • Davidsweet44

@29cc0d082a70c28741d3e57a6bc4b49a:disqus  that is so true, im 53 hours in and i swear it looks like some one chopped the game in certain parts

  • Bentley

I’m 160 hours in and I don’t have many issues… the odd crash but the framerate is fine. This is on PS3, and I hoard items at my house in Whiterun like a man obsessed… so it’s not everyone it affects. I am sick of the crashes but the framerate isn’t an issue for me. Sorry!

  • Drakenoshway

people that pay $60 for what is basically a beta with the amount that goes wrong have EVERY right to complain. if you are however to ignorant to understand such a concept my advice is to drink some draino.

  • Daveg75

PS3 closing in on 90 hours, only issues I’ve had are a few crashes here & there, a bit of lag (although not often), main issues for me is the “A Blade In The Dark” mission, get to teh burial site & the draogn just flies round & round & round and you can’t shoot him down at all, 2nd is in  Markarth, after completing “The Forsworn Conspiracy” & “No One Escapes Cidhna Mine” I can no longer enter the city without being confronted by guards who want to throw me in prison. Bit of a pain sinc eI have so many more quests left to do there.

Really hoping this patch will resolve my problems (fingers crossed)

  • Necaradan666

Incorrect as Minsc says “The squeaky wheel gets the kick.”

  • Necaradan666

True.. maybe it shouldn’t have been released on PS3 at all, you could have just bought it on PC or Xbox right?

  • Necaradan666

who cares if you get fired then, you can still pay the rent with your mannurse job, right?

Some games never get patches and are never fixed. Be thankful they are still patching Skyrim for now. It’s pretty obvious they will not manage to get every bug out there or at the least will not possibly be able to please every screaming fan before the patching process is complete and they move on to dlc, patches for dlc and new games but for now they are working on Skyrim.

And the game runs fine for me so every patch is just a bonus

  • Necaradan666

So isn’t that your fault? They can hardly be to blame for your failure to purchase a product you will be happy with, they didn’t force it down your throat if they didn’t release it for ps3 you’d probably be crying about that instead

  • Doodmens2

I have a problem with the Compagnions quest, the one that should start immediately after Blood’s Honor. When I come in Whiterun, Aela the Huntress starts to stalk me and the only thing she says is ‘These two aren’t a problem anymore’. She spams me with that and it’s really anoying. When I enter Jorrvaskr, Vilkas, or the quest giver guy, follows me and keeps popping up the talking dialogue. This should probably start the next quest but it doesn’t so he keeps doing it. I got a few other things as well but those aren’t worth to mention yet.

  • Phish_bulb

I’ve been walking these streets at night
Just trying to get it right
It’s hard to see with so many around
You know I don’t like being stuck in a crowd
And the streets don’t change but maybe the name
I ain’t got time for this game

  • Michael Booth3

game arrived today. pressed ok for update and then loaded game successfully.not having any previous experience of this genre before I would appreciate some advice. when I pick up weapons they seem to float.also is patch 1.4 out now if so it does not appear to be working. Please help.
    frustrated.

  • Kaden101

It’s my fault for purchasing a brand new product & expecting it to work? Really? You really don’t get it do you?

I’m not blaming them for me purchasing the product. I also wouldn’t blame them if they made a rubbish game….if it actually worked. Buying a rubbish game is like buying a rubbish car, or a CD of a rubbish band. As long as it actually works as advertised then you’ve nobody to blame but yourself for not doing your research, or having no taste.

My issue isn’t the game content itself…that’s awesome. Problem is, it doesn’t work. I’m definitely blaming them for not making the product properly. They didn’t advertise it was broken beyond belief. Nobody in the shop advised me that it would become unusable atfer a week. At no point in my research of this product was their mention it would crash every 10 minutes & attempt to break my console.

I would not have cried if they didn’t release the damn thing on PS3. I’d have more money in my pocket, & possibly…just possibly…purchased a product that actually worked as intended, even if it turned out to be rubbish game.

Even Lair worked properly, & that was crap.
