We find it funny when we hear that 2012 will be the year of the PS4 because we are sure Sony said they have no plans to make any sort of announcement this year, yet these claims have now popped up on a few occasions. Sony didn’t say they were not going to launch a new PlayStation this year, but they have no intention of announcing it during E3.
The Japanese games console maker has said they will not be rushed into releasing the PlayStation 4 just because the Wii U is coming this year, and most fans of the PS3 believe this to be the right decision.

PSM3 is still holding on to the fact that Sony could still announce the PS4 during E3, as they believe the Wii U has been the catalyst for the next-gen console race and it’s for this reason we ask why there is PS4 fanboyism with certain gaming mags who come up with claims as mentioned above? Some gamers have now asked why a select few magazines come up with year of titles on the front covers, like the time when one of them said GTA 5 is the best on the PS3.
Coming up with a statement like that could make them look stupid and lose credibility, as most fans of the franchise would agree that they were very wrong with the claim. It’s not just PlayStation mags guilty of this because Xbox 360 magazines have done just the same in the past, and will no doubt say Halo 4 will be the best game on the 360 this year.
While there’s nothing wrong with boosting the ego of the console you are promoting it’s another thing to speculate and come up with wild statements, as this is a clear sign of fanboyism.
Speaking of Sony there could be a few changes coming once the CEO takes over and it might be good news for gamers, as he is a veteran in this field. Whiles it’s hard to predict what changes will be made to try and put a stop to the money the company is losing, one article has suggested they drop the name PlayStation from their next console.
The reason they say this is because Nintendo has had far better success with their handhelds and the article believes it’s something to do with not sharing the same name as their home consoles; although believing that a name has anything to do with it could be naive?
The PlayStation brand is certainly a good one but there are some gamers who believe when there is negative publicity with one PlayStation product it could affect all the others. While it may be fun to think Sony may rebrand the next PlayStation let’s be honest here, it’s never going to happen.
