Razer success to determine Alienware gaming tablet

While not much is known about the gaming tablet from Razer we do know that it’s called ‘Project Fiona’ and will come packed with all the latest mobile tech to make this a relevant device. There are still many uncertainties with this tablet and this is one of the reasons why Alienware will wait to see its success before they determine a shift into the gaming tablet market.

Currently the most popular games on tablets are simple ones that keep people amused but we know both Razer and Alienware are looking for something completely different, which is why the former might not rely solely on touchscreen and could opt for nunchuck style controls as well. We know the iPad is starting to grow in popularity in the gaming market and the third-generation device looks set improve on its success.

Razer success to determine Alienware gaming tablet

In a recent article there had been a conversation with Eoin Leyden, Alienware’s product manager who looks set to consider a move into mobile gaming, although they did say that their audience is not interesting right now but this could depend if the Razer will change their outlook on how they perceive gaming on tablets, because they can only gauge it on the iPad and Android tablets right now and as we know their target audience is not for gamers just yet.

It’s no secret that getting the gamer on side is key but in their current form will not happen just yet, the Razer is a step in the right direction but that device is a long way off and we have no idea as to the specs. While Leyden admired how the Razer had add-on controls he believes that an Alienware gaming tablet would do things very different.

To play a game on an iPad or other such tablets users control a game by the touchscreen and an Alienware tablet could implement eye-tracking, although it’s hard to imagine how this would be incorporated into such a small device.

The biggest issue stopping growth with gaming on tablets is the hardware; while these are evolving all the time they are a long way off and needs a few more advancements first, having said that when you look at how far they have come when compared to the cell phone it won’t be long.

Alienware shouldn’t hang around too long because tablets are eating into PC and laptop sales at an alarming rate, and things are set to get a whole lot tougher once the likes of the iPad, Xoom and Galaxy Tab are able to do far more than they currently do, which is the one thing holding off sales of PCs and laptops going through the floor.

Do you feel that Alienware should consider a gaming tablet; who else would you like to see develop one?
