Today saw the start of GDC 2012 and we already knew there was going to be a treat in store for those anxiously waiting for details regarding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer, so we’re glad to inform you that we now have this visual treat for you below. It hasn’t taken long to start dissecting the trailer and from what we saw the hidden blade is MIA.
We had already hypothesized on what was thought to be the main setting and we were right, and so there’s to be a major plot twist from what’s been seen in previous games. The new Assassin will be called Connor but his real name is Ratohnhaké:ton, so you can understand why the character goes by his common name. You’ll get the general idea that he is on the hunt for Redcoats during the Revolutionary War with the Europeans, and you can easily see in the footage that they have no idea who they are up against.

It’s great to hear the voice of George Washington in the trailer but it does feel strange to have a lack of buildings for our Assassin to jump and climb on, instead relying on trees. It’s a shame that there isn’t any gameplay footage but this was to be expected with the first cinematic trailer, you do get to see a vast expanse of the frontier area – just don’t expect this on the same scale as Red Dead Redemption.
The footage of a Bald Eagle is so important for this game because it’s a symbol of the America that we know today, although it’s just as important to the Assassin’s Creed series. Most of the trailer focuses on the Mohawk Valley but the best part is how Connor runs through the forest in a fluid motion taking out his enemies with a tomahawk.
While the trailer was exciting to watch not much was shared and has left us wanting more, much like the trailer for GTA V for that matter. Even though we haven’t really explored this era in video games much it would be good if Ubisoft added a twist and made the Americans the bad guys, but then again Brits do make the better bad guys.
There is one aspect of the trailer that we forgot to mention and that is when we hear the words PEGI 18, does this mean there is going to be much more violence than previous versions of Assassin’s Creed? The biggest issue is with the hidden blade because we know it has been confirmed so how come we did not get to see it in the trailer, it’s a shame but then again it wouldn’t be hidden if we could see it?
What did you make of the first Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer?
