Wii U confusion regarding Unreal Engine 4 support
Although recent information has hinted that the Wii U will be able to support Unreal Engine 4 there is confusion about whether or not it will be used, but Epic Games VP said that it is not the firm’s ‘intention’ to bring this to Nintendo’s platform. Quite content to have Unreal Engine 3 running on Wii U the opinion is that this is an ideal fit for that platform.
Epic’s vice-president Mark Rein has stated that it is possible if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game” to the hardware, yet the likes of Arkham City, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Mass Effect look suited with Unreal Engine 3. Reporting this Video Gamer.com discuss how there is not much intention to bring Unreal Engine 4 to Wii U and Epic Games’ senior PR manager Dana Cowley has said that other than the PC no other platforms have been confirmed for UE4.
The confusion has become apparent since GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley quoted Epic’s Mike Capps as saying “Wii-U will be Unreal Engine 3”. Epic later clarified that it hadn’t declared its strategy on Wii U, although news that the UE4 can be scaled to work on the Wii-U is good as this means games ports will be a possibility between Wii U and other next-gen platforms. Unlike that with the 360, PS3 and the Wii, where they don’t port well and unable to support the controls.
As we wait to find out more some may wonder whether this article is saying there is something is wrong with UE3 and also that the PS4 and Nextbox aren’t confirmed to run UE4 either, surely the idea that the Wii U will be able to support Unreal Engine 4 is good news for next gen gaming. What is your opinion on this?
