Xbox 720 could boot PC games

The idea that the eventual release of the Xbox 720 could boot PC games may mean big things for the future of Microsoft’s next generation console because this would cause a massive impact on the likes of Nintendo and Sony. The option to expand games would also give the Xbox 720 an advantage to the extent that they would not have to concentrate on new features constantly to remain a competitor with other consoles.

A console slash PC hybrid could also show signs of backwards compatibility although some gamers can’t see this happening, as Microsoft will not make as much money from PC games, and some feel that this is not going to be the dramatic change they would be expecting. In reflection there is more chance that Windows 8 will be the hybrid booting Xbox games, as many are already ports and a PC game is never going to go away from the PC unless it is in a cloud service.

It seems that consoles are aiming to be more than just restricted to just playing games nowadays and it has been suggested that the future of these devices are going to revolve around all in one media stations that also play games. A fair individual response questioned whether people will now buy a phone that only makes calls and this will be relative to those buying consoles, as they now want it to do everything as well as gaming. Skepticism surrounds the world of gaming piracy but overall there is plenty of interest surrounding this, and many welcome the opportunity to do many of the things they would on the PC from the comfort of their sofa.

In the hope that it is identical to the PC and much cheaper some question whether this will still be regarded as a console and reporting this Strategy Informer mention the Xbox 720 supporting Windows 8, as a slip by Microsoft GM Brian Hall has given us reason to believe that this will be the case. With speculation surrounding the title of the 720, it has been suggested that Durango is the current code name and the more aptly sounding Infinity could have some truth behind it. What do you think about the notion that the next gen Xbox could boot PC games?

Sorry but it will always be a moot point and there is no way in heck mircosoft will ever allow pc games on the consoles as it makes terrible business sense and honestly the two platforms cater to different people. Even if the 720 comes out and is more powerful than any current pc it will last less than 3 months before pc exceeds it again. The pc is always going to have a place because people love to tinker basically. Personally it is far more satisfying and i can lose hours mucking about with graphic settings to see the different cause and effect. I find console games boring at best as there are never any options to change graphics if something starts to chug in certain scenes etc. Skyrim is a perfect example it looks horrible on console yet on pc it can be turned into a masterpiece. Why would anyone want to lose this advantage ? The 720 will also have so many teething problems and driver related issues that will likely take months if not a year to overcome . The mod community on pc keeps it so strong and propels it way above what will ever be possible on a console. Unlike being taken for a ride with the current technology of the 360 i wo'n't be lining up for a 720 . I'll just update the pc as then all my programs will always be backwards compatible as well.

if this could happen it be awesome, but the only way this would work is if big PC sellers agreed to it, such as steam. if nextbox had steam and origin it would work but it won't happen because valve hates microsoft now :) next xbox might allow mods though, its possible.

i think this idea is perfect as long as it's handled right there should be no problems seeing as though on a normal basis pc games are 10-15 bucks cheaper at launch than consolse titles of the same name, if the console can run them all the same well shoot bring it on

This could work, put two BIOSes in the machine, one wit a PC EFI, another with the protected Xbox OS. If you want to turn your NextBox into a PC, you'll have to void the warranty and open it up to switch to the other BIOS. You could still switch back and use it as an Xbox but without warranty. Could help sell the device as well, as everybody would like a cheap PC when they don't use it as a console anymore.

Its actually not a bad idea if they execute it the right way ..

This idea was something that was tossed around during the production of the first XBOX. Although great for gamers, i think it would be a super terrible idea for a company like Microsoft

in my opinion this is not the case, seeing as though they are a software company why not have your next console support games that your windows can run. it would give them the much needed edge to have a nice start off next gen

because if a 3rd party sells a PC game, and I buy it and play it on my nextbox, MS gets nothing from it, If I buy a copy of a COD for the xbox, MS got a portion of that money. I could by 1 or a billion PC games and MS wouldn't get a cent ( unless they owned the publisher or developer)

Maybe microsoft will make it so they take a portion of the sales of any pc game that will use windows 8 as an os. Idk just thinking out loud :P

NEVER going to happen. It would kill the system not to mention it isnt even rumored yay internet tabloid journalism

Hmm, very good, very tempting. I always bought Sony and I have always been happy. I might have to see what the PS4 has to offer too. I can play recent enough PC games on my Desktop but i open the door to new ideas as well.

PlayStation has been nothing but overhype and underdeliver for the last decade or so. Time to move on!
