SingStar cements Sony’s free-to-play push
When it comes to the PS3 it’s more than just for playing games, as there are a number of other things that it can be used for as well, but no matter what, its main focus is to have fun and entertain. If you are not playing a game on your PlayStation 3 then chances are you’re playing SingStar instead, but Sony could be about to make some changes, which will certainly bolster their free-to-play push.
We’re hearing that SingStar could become a free-to-play game, which means that you would no longer have to purchase a disc. It makes you wonder why this did not happen any sooner, as it’s far better to just have the game as a download and then pick what songs you want, instead of purchasing a disc only to have a number of tracks on there that are not to your liking.
Sony has yet to make an announcement on this, but if you look on the SingStar Twitter there are a lot of discussions on this. It’s hoped this move will help the franchise rise once again. I kind of know what they mean, going back about 3 or 4 years ago I was always trying to show off my singing talent, but over the last two years have lost interest, much like many of you as well.

Maybe free-to-play is the way to go, but do you think that Sony will need to reduce the price of each song that you download as well? While Sony have yet to make this news official, it’s clear to see that this is a direction they are keen to pursue, you only have to look at DUST 514, which will also be free-to-play.
There are also a host of other free-to-play games on PSN, much more than the other two brands offer, so from this one can only assume that Sony are about to move their free-to-play program up a notch in the not too distant future.
Do you believe that offering SingStar as free-to-play will help to rekindle our love with the franchise?
