Doom 3 BFG Edition: Installing on Xbox 360 limits gameplay
A recent admission by Bethesda has informed Xbox 360 users that those installing Doom 3 BFG Edition on to their hard rive may find this will limit the gameplay. The remastered title involves a seven-level solo section called, “The Lost Mission,” and this was cut from the original release of Doom 3, as this version has been enhanced and extended to be a more thrilling and improved experience.
With that in mind, the installed experience is not said to be as good on the Xbox, as there is no performance advantage in comparison to the actual disc copy. In an article on CVG, they also confirm that installing the game will not give users the opportunity to play both Doom and Doom 2, which is accessible with the disc copy. Bethesda’s global community lead Matt Grandstaf has stated that the installed version will not give players the same experience, and those intending to play this will go without the aforementioned two classic Doom titles bundled on the disc, as this is the recommended option for those wanting to play all versions.
In other Doom news, Digital Spy report on a launch trailer of Doom 3, which gives gamers the opportunity to check out the history of the franchise up to the Doom 3: BFG Edition. This version features the full original Doom 3 game along with its Resurrection of Evil expansion and new levels including the extended campaign known as The Lost Mission. With plenty of improvements this title has had enhancements made to visuals and lighting effects, as well as containing 3D display support, 5.1 surround sound along with achievement and trophy support on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

During the summer months, we spoke about the new Doom 3 BFG Edition with DLC for both consoles, which will give fans of the series a chance to revisit some of their favorite games in the series, although we didn’t know at the time that the other two games are not included with the installed copy. What are your views on the absence of both Doom 1 and 2 for those installing the game? In addition, will the limited gameplay give you a reason to buy the disc version?
