Did Skyrim Dawnguard PS3 finally affect Dishonored sales

With many PlayStation 3 owners showing their discontent over the fiasco surrounding the Skyrim Dawnguard DLC, there is a feeling that Bethesda’s involvement with Dishonored might have affected sales of the newly released title. During our attendance of the Eurogamer Expo one of the main games touted was Dishonored, featuring on the front cover of their program, and as far as reviews go this title has been welcomed by many gamers and critics.

By looking at the US game sales taken up to the week ending October 13th we can see that Dishonored features highly at number 2 with 290,646 for the Xbox version and 165,951 for the PlayStation 3. The figures shown on the VGChartz website give us an indication of how well the game has been received. It’s the same story in Europe as well with the game featured 4th and 5th, However, when looking on Ukie Dishonored is showing up as number 2, which shows that it has been a huge success on all formats, as we also expect the game to have done very well on the PC version as well.

With that in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to refer to a recent post of ours that mentioned how the PS3 Skyrim Dawnguard is not being blamed for poor Dishonored sales. We mentioned how Bethesda’s involvement as a publisher, and whether this could affect the sales of Dishonored. It seems only a minority are standing their ground over the Skyrim DLC, so some may find the price tag of $60 a bit expensive, although we feel that Dishonored has taken time to build up momentum, and this update in the gaming charts has reflected this.

Did Skyrim Dawnguard PS3 finally affect Dishonored sales

Those who have played Dishonored and enjoyed the experience will be the ideal candidates to put the message across that it is a great game, and those making a stand against Bethesda are not teaching them a lesson as they did not develop the game and doesn’t even use the same engine. In some cases those giving Dishonored a wide berth may feel that this is the only way to show Bethesda, which is a shame for the developers, as they are also being punished.

At the beginning of the month, we looked at various perspectives on the game and with a review harmony, many say that the gameplay is extremely rewarding. As time goes on we can see sales of Dishonored picking up even more than they have, as the reviews suggest this is a title worth getting.

I have tried to send this to there complaint department but will not let me post it. I want my money back for your crappy game skyrim on the ps3. I don't think you understand how the ps3 people think of your treacherous act has brought the people together in a class action suit against you for your decimation against us if not fix we will see you in court fuckers. And you can take that to the bank and get my money back.

I bought it on PC and its a great game. Xbox Playstation both of them suck when it comes to gaming. Might as well just wait and play it on the system it was made on!

How long has the PS3 been out? 6 years? And Beth still doesn't have at least one hipster kid that can code (or whatever it is) on it? I find that hard to believe.

maybe skyrim has nothing to do with it, maybe its the 4.25 CFW hack to out now

despite the dawnguard dissapointment, i still bought dishonored and i have to say it is well worth it. Grow up. skyrim was a great game without dawnguard

dishonored sucked anyway the cool thing about that game was blink, didnt buy either TPB. its all bethesda's fault that game got screwed over and any of their future games. until they bring out dawnguard and haerthfire for free for their treacherous lies and bull poo.

I have decided to wait until the DLC comes out for Skyrim before investing in Dishonored for the PS3. I really like Bethesda, and followed their games for years, but they really dropped the ball on Skyrim. A short delay is understandable, but there is a limit. I do not want to get Dishonored and the same issue occurs. The best part of playing a game I really like, to me, it having the gameplay/story continued after I have mastered the main content.

If Arkane doesn't want to be "punished" they should not be working with Zenimax or Bethesda. If a PS3 user wants to make a statement by boycotting Bethesda, the shouldn't buy anything they had a hand in. If developers see partnering with Bethesda as a risk to their game sales, then the message has been successfully sent.

Yawn, usual flawed fanboy nonsense from this site... A UK site quoting US numbers (which is XBox territory) to make some point that they have already decided upon. You might as well come out from behind your hidden agenda, as it's not very well hidden anymore. I would also love to take a read of your editorial and ethics policy....

Put it this way, two people go into Restaurant Bethesda, one sits at table Xbox, the other table PS3. They both order Skyrim, expecting a great meal. But strangely, Table Xbox not only gets the nicer food with no problems at all, but then second helpings (with of course, an exclusivity deal as well), and then dessert on top of that! Table PS3, despite the shitty food, the lack of pudding and the shitty service, is understanding, and asks Pete Hines the waiter what's going on. 'I'm not telling you anything.' He says. Next week someone asks, 'Hey, wanna' eat at that Arkane Restaurant, I hear they have a great meal called 'Dishonored' going on?' 'Oo yeah sure, anything else you can tell me about it.' 'It's owned by the same chain as Restaurant Bethesda?' HAHAHAHAHA ALL OF MY NOPE

That made so much sense, I could make a dollar off of it. (certainly more than Dishonored will get from me)

Was an analogy really needed? You couldn't plainly explain the dawnguard situation without one? Smh

It seems this article was written by an apologist for Bethesda. I went to Gamestop and cancelled my preorder before Dishonored came out. I speak with my wallet. Arkane threw their lot in with the wrong company; collateral. Their next business decision should be better.

yes this is the reason I didn't buy it. I was interested in the game and picked it up then read bethesda on the box and put it back on the shelf.

The only people who are "making a stand" against Bethesda are the mentally challenged whiny, self-entitled brats that in no way represent the average gamer. Most PS3 gamers who own Skyrim would probably enjoy the DLC, but if we don't get it we won't pretend that the game is useless without the DLC. That's just common sense. Why would I boycott a company that develops some of my favorite games this generation? So I didn't get DLC once. Well, I can always buy it for the PC, or just get over it and play something else until Fallout 4 releases. I'm not going to throw a tantrum and yell at the developer because they're having difficulty getting DLC that they are not required in any way to release to work on the PS3. Gamers weren't meant to be whiny little kids. Grow up or find a new hobby please. Stop bring down the name of respectable gamers everywhere. Also, if you seriously believe anything you just wrote in this article then you need to find a new career. No offense, but Skyrim's DLC will not significantly influence sales for a product that wasn't even developed by Bethesda. It's published by them. I really doubt most people are associating Dishonored with Skyrim. If they are, they're idiots.

You sir are the idiot, This isn't the first time PS3 users have been screwed by Bethesda. Fallout 3, and New Vegas, took forever to get the DLC to PS3, and the games when launched were so buggy it was almost unplayable, NV is still unplayable at most times for me, we didn't get 90% of the DLC for Oblivion, and we didn't get Morrowind on PS2, Xbox got it, we didn't. And now once again in their new game, we are getting screwed. Don't get on here and act like you know everything about the situation, and then proceed to call everyone else an idiot.

yes, on the lonesome road dlc, when i got to hopeville, the lag was so bad it almost made me have a seizure, and of course had to restart my ps3 needless to say, this is very unprofessional of Bethesda, the people who clearly have never heard of learning from their mistakes. Don't get me wrong, they make great games, but can be very unprofessional

Dude, it's not the fact that I'm missing out on a great stealth assassin game for boycotting Bethesda related products. You see, I get to kill two birds with one stone. Not only do I boycott Bethesda, but I also am getting the far superior stealth assassin game, Assassin's Creed 3. See?, I get a better game, and harm Bethesda for lack of stone cold information about the progress of Dawnguard at the same time. And for the record, why is anyone even considering getting Dishonored in the first place? AC3 is way better, out of the ballpark.

Dishonored is a great game it could have been longer in the story tho...

As much as they have annoyed me with Skyrim, they did the exact same thing with other releases. This to me says that it is not an actual issue with preformance and systems and more like they have a exclusive deal with Mircosoft. This would allow the DLC to be released on Xbox 360 and pc and leave PS3 owners high and dry. While I am not a fan of this situation, whether it is a programming issue or marketing issue they are lying about, I will be buying Dishonored. But because of their bad history, I am going to wait to buy it until I am done with my Winter release schedule, which already has 5 titles on it and growing.

it's not that i want to punish bethesda, it's more like i'm wary about buying anything that's even remotely connected to bethesda.

I don't trust Bethesda to make any more games for the ps3.So what happens if they come out with a content for Dishonored so they can repeat the same bull#### again. They need to fix skyrim first to get my faith again.

Fed up saving my £££ every month to buy Dawnguard so decided to say "Screw this I'm buying FIFA". Maybe not as entertaining but at least FIFA is guaranteed. Football Rules!!! :{D moustache smiley !!! Dun dun dun!!

why cant Bethesda just tell us we arent getting dawnguard atleast we have a straight answer rather then telling us it needs tweaking and all that bullshit

Maybe if Bethesda and Pete Hines were more open and honest and sympathetic about the lack of DLC, consumers would be more trustworthy and enclined to buy a game published by them. Another reason i did not buy it was becuase for a game that is $60 its a short game and not worth it to me. I'm thinking about getting Assasins Creed Gold Edition and AC Liberation Bundle. Its $120 but its WORTH it.

reckon you can make me some buiscits. mustards good on em to me.

the bethesda logo isnt helping any, im sure of that

Regardless of how you feel about the company and whether or not you were slighted because you didn't get DLC, you can't look past this game because of it. Skyrim was alright. It's huge, cool story, dragons, whatevet. We get it, get over it. Dishonored is an amazing game too, so many elements in this game gives me hope that good game play isn't dead! The mechanics they use here work and to an amazing effect. Don't miss out on an amazing play through because you are butt hurt. If you are a gamer, you game. Get off the forums and get on your system and play this game.

it is the principal of the matter. when I buy a game I expect that each console would get equal dcl. it is like giving every one a bag and just giving two out of the three candy and let the hird watch them enjoy it.

Dishonored A.K.A. Fable Stealth

I don't know why you call yourself 'Upset and delusional' - that's one of the most sane comments on here! You know what? Let them miss out - serves them right for being so blinkered...

Bethesda, Pete Hines, take your pick. It is too bad for Arkane as it does look like a good game...so hopefully they'll be quick to learn and go with another publisher next time. I'll wait and buy it used, it's the only leverage I have as a consumer.

I didn't buy Dishonored because when I saw the word "Bethesda" on the box, I almost vomited.

Dishonored looks like a great game and I wish them the best. I would love to see them grow and design future games. Yet, Bethesda doesn't care about it's consumers, yet alone ps3 users. Reaching world wide sales of over $650 million; that's all what it's about. Even though skyrim is an awesome game, it's sad to say that Bethesda and all bethesda related products will no longer get any of my hard earned money. Ps3 users were "Dishonored".

I didn't buy dishonored because of dawnguard and I know half a dozen others doing the same. If they decide to make a dlc how do I know I won't get screwed over again.

reason why i havent bought it is couse i has other games i want like hitman assissans creed 3 resadent evil 6 and medal of honor thats coming out so i wouldnt have much time to worrie about dishonored pluse i would love to get the new metal gear ground zero

Who the hell taught you to spell?

I say they just offer us a full refund on skyrim becasue were never gonna see DLC. One of the best parts of the games was the fun and interesting content that was offered download. Fine they did not know it was going to be such a fiasco but now they should offer people a chance to be refunded or echange for a different counsole if they have the option. People complain that we may seem like were just complaining like little children but when you look at it PS3 owners have gotten the very short end of the stick. This is crap that even though was not intended for is the companies responsibility to make up to us. I gaurentee you if they said that the PS3 was not going to get any DLCs that we would of bought them for different systems, if we had the option. Those of us who did not would then be willing to gamble on the game itself which is fairly priced for the product. What I am is just really tired of having to check all the time about the updates for the DLCs and that Bethwhatever should make it up to the consumers. Those that want to keep the ps3 versions can those that want to trade them in should be refunded or exchanged for other versions. Point blank I bought the game for the options of DLCs that was always the way these games are marketed. If they cannot deliver I feel like I have been taken advantage of and discriminated against becasue I purchased a ps3.

Just to let you know, you are clearly confused. Why should you get refunded for DLC not coming out on your console. You didn't pay $60 for DLC, you payed for Skyrim. DLC is not originally part of the game itself, it's added features that are released for download. Bethesda never promised DLC on the box did they. No no they didn't, now you know why your comment just annoyed the hell out of me.

Actually, they did! If you take a good look on the reverse side of the TES V: Skyrim case, it says "Add-On Content." Not releasing DLC for the PS3 version of Skyrim would be False Advertising.

piss off, If I knew there would be no dlc I would have bought it for xbox. Now i'm out 60 bucks and hours of play with no dlc. Plus I had to deal with that whole lagging issue (which still hasn't been fully solved). The issue is clearly bethesda's so you can fyck off

dude stfu about the refund okay where gonna get dlc soon so stop righting these paragraphs bethesdas working on it there not gonna give you a damn refund because dlc was a late stop whining and crying about it and play skyrim while you wait

Yep, I didn't buy dishonored cuz of bethesda and the dawnguard bullshit.

What utter rubbish! So Bethesda's failing to produce DLC for PS3 Skyrim made sales for a completely different product drop in the UK but not in the US? What sort of moron writes crap like that?? Aceprime got it right - it was FIFA (because more people are interested in a 'soccer' game in the UK than they are in the US). And yes, it's a shame because Dishonoured is a great stealth game; one of the best I've played. If you haven't got anything intelligent to say PLEASE shut up (or go die in a hole somewhere, because I'm getting really sick of PS3 owners coming across as a bunch of whiny bitches)!

stop calling ps3 users whiny bitches when u are being one right now!
