Skyrim Dawnguard optimism and PS3 DLC empathy

Skyrim Dawnguard optimism for PS3 DLC, Bethesda lacks empathy

Before the release of Dishonored all the signs showed that it was going to be an enjoyable game, but there were fears that gamers annoyed with the Skyrim Dawnguard DLC fiasco for the PS3 was going to affect sales. All the signs were there, but we’re happy to report that Dishonored has proved itself in terms of early sales. However, this still does not hide the fact that some gamers are still unhappy with the lack of empathy displayed by Bethesda, and because of the lack of updates from them certain gamers are now starting to feel less optimistic.

When Dishonored was first released Peter Hines was being left alone, but we had assumed that he would be inundated with questions and demanding answers in regards to the progress being made for Dawnguard. Currently Hines as the PR man is the only person that we have direct contact with in regards to this huge issue, and it’s not good for a number of reasons, but the main one being that it’s his personal page.

This was the first sign that Bethesda had no empathy for PlayStation 3 owners. It does seem funny that when Skyrim Dawnguard was due for release there were constant updates on the situation, so how come now the Xbox 360 and the PC have received two DLCs the updates have now stopped?

Skyrim Dawnguard optimism for PS3 DLC, Bethesda lacks empathy

There are two ways that we can look at this silence from Bethesda and Peter Hines, the first is that the DLC for the PS3 is close to completion, or they know it’s not coming and are trying to move on. Having said that Bethesda still maintain that there will be new content for all platforms, and some recent code found in the latest Skyrim PC 1.08 patch seems to confirm this. It’s sad when you are unable to get all the content that other platforms are enjoying. We can’t say for sure if there will be any long term damage for Bethesda with the PS3 community, because as it stands many of them are still saying that they will boycott any future games.

Are you optimistic that Skyrim Dawnguard for the PS3 will be released, or is this silence a sign that Bethesda lacks empathy and are no longer trying?

I know everyone is frustrated with this, but I'd rather they get it right, then release it before its 100% ready. Too often now developers are releasing games too early and its a glitchy mess, only for us to have to pay extra for patches, so I'd rather wait a bit longer for them to get it 100% right.

Haha even beth hates hines, the only guy they force to respond to the raggers(keep on ragging this situation is ish).

Another stupid story

Everything here is irrelevant. By now you all should know that when Bethesda release an RPG that it gets released in Beta form and all you suckers get to do the job of finding everything wrong with it for them. The finished product is the GOTY edition. Just wait for that.

Poor PS3 owners. I understand you guys not getting Dawnguard when you wanted but think of it this way. I've seen in the past E3s in the past that PS3 was getting better content before the Xbox 360 and even the PC (or at least the Xbox). I own a Xbox 360 and yes I do have Dawnguard but when you get it you will be impressed.

it will never come out for ps3 users... we all just need to get over the fact of it

Bethesda is under a contractual obligation by Microsoft. Every DLC produced for Skyrim must be a one month timed exclusive for the Xbox. The problem with the PS3 is not something that can be easily resolved. Some of it is coding, the main problem however is the PS3's memory. While the Xbox uses a single 512 MB block of shared RAM, the PS3 uses two 256 MB blocks of RAM, one of which is dedicated to the PS3's operating system. Skyrim is a large open world environment and is a bit taxing for the system. The PS3 and Xbox are 6 and 7 years old. They're terribly outdated. You can't expect them to continue playing contemporary titles without issue.

it is all microsofts folt thay bought out bethesda and what to get more cash so thay must have some one in the to make there be more probles for the ps3 on

none of this makes any sense...

Addicts...all of you.

HEAR HEAR!!! :D God, what happened to patience?! I know it's frustrating to all of you to have to wait anxiously for some scrap of news, but damn! If you think you can do better, DO IT! Quit whining about how unfair it is and make your own damn game to see if you can even TOUCH what Bethesda has given to us over the years. Jeez, show a little compassion neh?

John, you are far too intelligent to be here - please beat yourself over the head with an iron bar until you're dumb enough to compete with the other 'contributors' on this thread.

Bethesda just needs to keep us posted, it's completely unfair to the moeny we've payed over the years to not recieve any information even if it's bad news. Furthermore, I can't even let the camera go under water on mine or it freezes my whole system.

Honestly, if you think about it, it has to be the former. I can understand if they were trying to distance themselves from the matter, but fact is they would have come out and said straight out "Sorry, no Dawnguard or Hearthfire for PS3". This leads me to believe that they did indeed fix what needed to be fixed, and that we may see both of them very soon. And this is coming from someone who has become completely pessimistic about the DLC

lesson learned never gonna buy from bethesda again.

It's not just the dawnguard fiasco that's causing me to boycott any future games. It's the quality of communication with every player. Why can't the do updates on their page instead of using Hines's personal page. And now everybody has gone silent. Understandable for Hines because he was getting a bunch of rants on his page but why can't they give updates. I dont blame Hines at all. I blame bethesda. Of course punishing people for doing something that they didnt see coming seems to be the theme of this whole situation. Punishing ps3 gamers for choosing the wrong console, Hines for working for the wrong company, and Arkane Studios for having the wrong publisher on their game.

What defines the wrong console? To my knowledge and I got both systems is the PS3 is the more powerful system with Blu-ray. All the other game companies does not really have problems making games for the PS3 and actually some prefer the PS3 so how it's the wrong console is news to me.

Oh I agree with you good sir. It's just that bethesda has punished us for not choosing xbox or even pc. That is what I meant

I think Ps3 will see all DLC they have spent too much money especially when they brought Sony in to help fix there mistakes that cost them too but regardless I aint that bothered no more the game is starting to bore me due to spending 600hrs on it and btw I aint experienced many problems on PS3 version and Iv being playing it from day 1, DLC won't change the game much anyways Dawnguard doesn't impress me neither looking at the videos online I don't like Vampires they killed Oblivion and I am a werewolf at the minute to avoid been infected I don't even want to be a werewolf. What would make the game better is more places to freely exlplore and more weapons and armor more new characters stop the dragon attacks now also they are more annoying now I have killed millions if i want to fight one il go see them, they are easy to kill im level 80 and nothing brings a challenge, nice little things for when you want to muck about for roleplayers fishing, hunting with some kind of score sytems kill off the empire camps or stormcloaks in new quests they are loads of holes left to be filled in on these why are they there still after they have being defeated why are you told to kill them when they don't die when you try its dumb I spent hours trying to figure out if I missed something thinking theyre must be a trigger to start a quest to finish off the empire.

IF YOU IGNORANT JACKOFFS DO NOT START USING PROPER PUNCTUATION IN YOUR 5,000 WORD RUN-ONS, I AM GOING TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE. Thank you, that is all.

Say's the guy that's using all capitals in their statement...dumbass Mike.

Says the guy using 'say's' instead of 'says' (which isn't proper punctuation, so MIke, warm up those fists)... dumbass DON-EAZY-E

English, because communication wasn't f***ed up enough already.

Christ; that was the most intense grammar nazi comment i've ever heard. your supposed to keep it calm. HA HA HA (i know) you're

i would really love to see you try as for one you have no idea who the guy or woman is and two you have no idea where they live and you want to talk about punctuation when usually if you want to seem like you're yelling, and i just might be crazy here, but that's usually ended in exclamation marks. i could care less about punctuation or grammar but if you're going to complain about it practice what you preach

as a fan of bethesda's work, it would be hard for me to say i would boycot there future games. I can say that i have enjoyed the hundreds of hours playing skyrim. But after reaching platinum, there was nothing left for me to do except solve problems for npc's (we all know that gets boring). Yeah, it would have been nice to spend a few more hundred hours and also build my own retirement home facing one of the many beautiful waterfalls, but........oh well!!! I had to migrate back to reality, so i left Ysolda home in whiterun hoping that one day i will be back. I picked up an M4A1 and hit the battlefield and i haven't looked back. Oh my poor dear Ysolda...... ups-clan

I agree that it's a short stick delivered to PS3 owners, but please remember, Pete Hinesdid say for bethesda, that its their issue that they are working towards fixing. Its not the fault of sony, but theirs. Sounds to me like they are trying to take the blame, and they are or were trying to fix the issue. I do have a friend who is a really good game writer, i dont understand any of it, but he went through a lot of schooling to learn to make video games, but he refuses to work on any games for platforms, because as it stands right now, the ps3 just cant handle the code that the xbox can. It is an extremely difficult platform to write for, and until sony does something about it, they will never have the same abilities that the xbox does. White it may be a bit stronger in the hardware area, sony made the ps3s system a little behind what the xbox has to offer in the way of useability. For that reason, the ps3 will have a lot more issues than the xboxwhen the same game is put out on both platforms. His suggestion is to just use the xbox until sony can get their stuff together. The reason sony did this with the ps3 to me is that they wanted exclusive games, games that you cant get on pc or xbox. But then a law was passed for equality in the entertainment industry, making it so that the ability to play the same game on xobx and ps3 . I surmise its more sonya issue than bethesdas, and fhey should be given some room to breathe.

That dribble you have just said is the most utterly false garbage I have ever read if your friend is a game writer which he very well might be he could be a good one but as for him having any knowledge on the subject of DEVELOPMENT he wouldn't have a clue a writer would be writing stories, a designer does graphics and developer puts it together and make the game, it would be the developer that does the programming code, anyhow I can tell you that you have made up lies in order to put the PS3 down because you are the most biased peace of SHHH I have been so unfortunate to read a comment by, The PS3 can most certainly out muscle the Xbox in all areas the fact that the game was made on Xbox does bring difficulty on the PS3 as the architechure is quite different but your statement is rubbish because if it were made on PS3 then ported both the Microsoft PC and Xbox would experience difficulty as Microsoft PC AND XBOX translate the same garbage.

@I know best, I agree with you on everything. The problem is that in the U.S. we are so used to dealing and working on Microsoft tech that we have to realize that Microsoft is not the only country making technology in this world. Just my opinion.

@2f2381b559d09a6689379c6e8981bbb9:disqus I own both consoles, and I'm not biased, but clearly you are, Skyrim WASN'T developed for the XBOX 360, it was developed for the PC. An XBOX 360 is simply a standardised PC with a specialised operating system. The PS3 has TWENTY SEVEN different hardware variations over 5 generations. The XBOX 360 has 7 different hardware variations across three different base models. The complexity in variations alone makes it a much more difficult prospect to produce consistent performance, hampered by the fact that the PS3 memory architecture doesn't lend itself to the scale of Skyrim's open world (and Dawnguard features some BIG areas). The PS3 does have superior GPU and audio capability to the XBOX 360, but that's not where the issue lies. Plus, the reason Bethesda haven't released Dawnguard yet is that they don't want to release what they feel is a substandard product (which really WOULD be betraying PS3 owners) All of these things are facts. Unbiased and freely available for anyone to check. Which I suggest you do before citing your own bias as the unvarnished truth.

Pete didn't say that, he said the opposite, his boss corrected the error.

Pete Hines doesn't deserve to have a job.

I bought Dishonored used (for 360), so Bethesda can suck it. They will not make another cent from me until they issue an apology and some kind of bonus for ps3 using schlubs that got screwed on the Skyrim DLC. I do not consider Sony blameless either, because their architecture is purposefully difficult to code for. I will seriously consider which version before I purchase any high resource game. I am nobodies fan-boy. I own both systems and made an informed decision about platform choice. The promise of DLC clearly stated on the back of the clam-shell was undelivered.

The Ps3 is not hard to code for. Its been out over six years now. Its up to the developer to be lazy or not. No other major gaming company is having problems coding for the ps3. And just in case you think the xbox is better than the ps3 like all other dillusional fanboys. Its not. The Cell chip processor far exceeds the xbox Xenon processor. Yo mama.

Hey guys I'm majin Romulus and ill be playing with your nut sacks today :p hehehe

I think we should get all 3 add-ons for the price of 1 when the new dlc comes out, that'd make me happy

All this could be avoided if Bethesda were to simply admit to their mistakes and apologise on failing to deliver PS3 players what they payed for. I'm not a PS3 player, but I find it unfair that you guys are getting the short stick of everything with this game.

I actually have all systems and still buy it for the PS3 as stupid as it sounds but it is my preferred machine when it comes to gaming, not trying to compare but I only play 360 for Fable which is the only exclusive I find decent on 360, there for the 360 is now a glorified DVD player for my 2 year old son.

Actually, PS3 owners got exactly what they paid for, which is The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim. Yes, the game was glitchy for many at launch, but if they’d waited to fix more bugs on PS3, gamers would’ve complained about the wait. No one paid for Dawnguard PS3 yet, all you have to do is wait. And by the way, you’re not waiting for heart transplant...

Actually my games case states they will be DLC, oh I would of waited longer without complaining too infact it should of been delayed on all systems aswell imagine if you didn't have internet and your game played up like it did it still is the garbage everyone paid for which is a broken game unfinished game. People didn't pay for a broken game, You can go on that its fine on £60 and PC but is it really play it unpatched on them systems see how many broken quests there is and later in the game it lags like your playing a multiplayer with a 56k modem. So it aint exactly perfect how about when your playing on PC and it randomly turns off and goes straight to desktop? Did people pay for that willingly 11/11/11 is the only reason it was released then in truth it still aint ready for release on any system they could of ideally set it for 12/12/12 maybe fear of not getting game of the year due to whats been released they wouldn't risk a certain Rockstar game coming out bet they gutted after recently finding out that it wont e out till 2013

No it doesn't - it states 'downloadable content', which includes patches and bug fixes as well as new features (all of which the PS3 version has had). It mentions nothing about specific 'add-ons' (unless of course you've scribbled it on in crayon). 'I know best'? No, you know nothing...

Actually, looking at my 11/11/11 release game case right now. Very top band on the case from left to right: "PSN" logo and PSN - space - ADD-ON CONTENT * TROPHIES Going further, on page 4 in the game manual, under Main Menu, there is a 'Downloadable Content' option that clearly shows the between 'LOAD' and 'Credits' You are flat wrong TwinStripeUK. I know Bethesda defenders have/can/will say that this is probably a misprint of some kind, and that's their opinion of course. But really take a sec and think, what sense does it make to make a multiplatform release and plan to not service 30% of your customers? And need we even touch on all the documented tripe(as it turned out to be) Tweet Hines was spouting before launch? About how the PS3 version of Skyrim was "getting plenty of attention". Or how the PS3 version had reached a "level of parity" with the PC and Xbox 360 versions. Or(my personal favorite) how Bethesda was using an "all new engine" for Sykim-that incidentally is having the EXACT same issues on PS3 that the old Gamebryo engine did. Nuh-uh. Sorry. Bethesda is going to be very hard-pressed to pass off product maintenance patches and bug-fixes as promised purchasable content.

Why did you write all that when twinstripeuk already acknowledged it said downloadable content? Once again dlc simply means ANYTHING you download, including patches and updates. You mistake dlc for PLAYABLE dlc( levels and such). And that it says nothing about.

exactly: nice try twin stripe

@2d843d6f4bd8af2daa458f47852bafb6:disqus - Thank you for that - it shows that at least somebody actually reads before posting on here! @spiritreaver:disqus - Where EXACTLY does it say 'purchasable content'? It doesn't, does it? It says 'add-on' content (which includes the kill-cam and horse combat stuff, because that wasn't in the original release). As for the downloadable content menu option, granted, it's there and that would indicate something available after launch in a downloadable format... But it doesn't say 'Dawnguard', or 'the other half of the game you already paid for' anywhere, so where anyone gets that implication from is beyond me! Clearly the english you speak is a totally different variation from any other dialect spoken anywhere else is the world. If you're going to quote 'evidence' then make it just that; not what your interpretation of what that evidence might be.

@2d843d6f4bd8af2daa458f47852bafb6:disqus - sorry about that; autocomplete filled in the wrong user... mind you, I suppose that's part of the Bethesda conspiracy too...

Hey, like i said, you want to have an idiotic opinion that let's Bethesda off the hook, that's fine. Just don't expect others to share or believe it. That said, you need to check what you write and the context before you hit post. In the comment i replied to above, you clearly say that Bethesda said nothing about 'Add-on'. Now you are saying that they did, but 'add-on' includes mounted combat and patches. So which is it? Really fellow, ppl keep swooping in to defend Bethesda and they REALLy don't need it or deserve it. Especially when you use dumb rationale to do so. Yes i said dumb, because "it doesn't say 'Dawnguard" and the like are just plain stupid opinions to base a defense on. In your defense though, Bethesda is hoping more people misinterpret all the actual facts like you have done. They are counting on it on doubt. Its about the only exit strategy they have out of this mess now.

Calm down, all I have to say is, if bethesda thinks they can get away with not releasing DG fine, if they realse it and apologize, fine. Have your own opinion about it but don't ruin it for other people. Angering random people on the web doesn't do anyone any good.

Well actually I just took the context you were using 'DLC' in and explained that 'DLC' doesn't always mean something you pay for that extends the lifetime of the product.. And no, you don't have to agree with it,but that's the facts. And you know what? Bethesda DO need defending, because as hard as they're working to give you exactly what you want right now, you won't be satisfied. If they deliver, then you whine it should be free. If it's free, it'll be bugged. If it's completely bug free, it'll be too short... So where beforehand I was kind of hoping that I could either shut a few whingers up, or maybe even change a few minds, I now really really hope that Bethesda listen to each and every one of you with your bitter, twisted little vendettas against them... and then tell you that you're right, and the road ends here and you're not worth bothering with. But I don't think that being right then will make you any happier.
