Candidates for the next Xbox release, 720 not one of them

It seems like the next generation Xbox console has accumulated the name 720 but this is far from a done deal, although 7.2 million results come from typing this into Google. The title seems to have originated from doubling 360, revolving full turn for what we believe to be the next Microsoft console. As far as the name is concerned there are many candidates, but 720 is not one of them.

The name has become really popular and this makes us wonder whether people will still refer to this after it is released, but an article on VR-Zone gives us reason to believe that it will actually be called Xbox Next, which sounds reasonable considering it will also be classed as a next generation console. There are suggestions that a name rather than a number will be the trend this time around, and when it comes to the new PlayStation console rather than being titled as the PS4 there is a chance that is could be called PlayStation Ultra. World is another plausible one mentioned or even something relative to the Italian name of the Vita, meaning Life, and PlayStation Mondo is one i would like the sound of, although Ultra makes it sound more like a hardcore football fan.

Apparently the name for the new Xbox is still undecided and many have been touted over the year, yet we feel that Microsoft are looking for a decent marketing name and everything from Xbox 8 to Xbox Next have been suggested, as the number 8 would be relative to the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. There are also reports that it could be named after existing products like Xbox Kinect or Live or even just plainly the Xbox, although eight is meant to be a lucky number as opposed to four, which is another name mentioned.

A movie called Real Steel apparently had Xbox 720 on one of the ads in the arena, but we are sure that it didn’t accumulate from this, in fact, we don’t know of many that have seen this film. Plenty of gamers never really took the 720 name seriously, and it has been used as a quick way to define the next generation console from Microsoft. We can guarantee it will have the name Xbox on it, although we can probably rule out the Xbox 3 when the PS4 is coming, yet a suggestion of the NextBox would be an ideal marketing pun like the Kinect.

In other news, our most recent Xbox post spoke about subsidizing the pricing model, as Microsoft need to release their next-gen console sooner rather than later, due to stalling 360 sales. In addition a previous article also hit upon the requirement for a new Xbox 720 release highlighting the figures for 360 sales and this is more apparent when you take a look at the sales of the PS3 in the UK, which have gone up 138 percent, although the super slim console has some bearing.
