SimCity next-gen console potential, thanks to Glassbox engine

SimCity, started out as a city-building simulation video game back in October 1989, and a series has since been ported into various personal computers and game consoles with many sequels including the forthcoming SimCity in 2013. Aiming to be one of the most extensive management games ever made, the SimCity Glassbox engine could end up on next-gen consoles.

Other powerful engines like the Frostbite 2 or CryEngine 3 are already used in the current consoles, so the Glassbox engine could follow in their footsteps, and even though this may not be apparent for the existing systems this could end up being a potential outcome on the next-gen consoles. Highlighting comments made by SimCity producer Jason Faber, Now Gamer reports on their intention to focus on the PC and Mac at present.

In addition, an EA PR divulged more on this by explaining Maxis ambition to build the Glassbox for future simulations for the studio and it’s highly scalable, making it applicable to a range of different platforms. According to Faber, the Glassbox engine could “definitely” be portable to various platforms, although it is noted that SimCity is currently in the works for the PC and Mac, at the moment.

In other SimCity news, TG Daily report on a slight delay for the launch date, and instead of releasing in February it has been delayed until March 2013, yet no official explanation has been given for this. Apparently the new game will allow players from all over the globe to have an affect on how it is experienced in regards to the in-game global economy, but the big issue here is that players will have to be online at all times. Would you like the opportunity to play the new SimCity on the go?
