No Skyrim Dawnguard on PS3 prior to Christmas

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

As the lack of Skyrim Dawnguard on the PlayStation 3 is continuing to infuriate many Sony gamers there is not much confidence that it will come this side of Christmas and the less optimistic feel that it might no come at all. An update on the approximate timeline or any information on how its coming along has been a bug many PS3 owners have had to bare with Bethesda, and the fact that they have remained rather quiet on this makes us feel they are not any closer to completing it.

If they were making progress with either Dawnguard, Hearthfire or Dragonborn DLC we would expect news of this to be prominent thus upping the lack of communication we are now experiencing. The whole situation is becoming tiresome, as many gamers gave up hope months ago, and their attitude to Bethesda has caused them to contemplate not investing in anything with the name attached.

A few days ago, we spoke about a minority of PS3 gamers moving over to other platforms in a quest to obtain the elusive DLC, but we feel this is rather extreme, thus wasting money on more Bethesda merchandise backing what seems to be an exclusive DLC at the moment. Originally, players of other platforms sympathized with gamers that have been waiting for this content, but now feel that they might as well give up on it, although some confirmation from Bethesda that it is not coming would give those in waiting a reason to move on and disregard anything to do with Bethesda in the future.

The ongoing saga will continue until gamers get what they deserve and that is all three DLCs, especially the first one. We can’t see too many PS3 owners abandoning their console for downloadable content from one title, we understand that Skyrim has accumulated fans that want what is on offer, and deserve regular updates on why it is not here. Some optimistic gamers still hold hope for the content to arrive and now would be the idea time in the lead up to Christmas, but we cannot see any light in the tunnel at the moment, so we looked at ways Bethesda could compensate Skyrim fans with hints of free or heavily discounted DLC when it eventually gets here.

If the DLC arrived before Christmas, Bethesda could undo some of the damage with Dawnguard as a gift to accompany the festive spirit, although this is just wishful thinking. If the first DLC was released before Christmas would you be more inclined to give Bethesda another chance? Alternatively are just waiting to obtain the content before you turn your back on Bethesda for good?

        • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.bondura Stephen Bondura

Sad. Unfortunately any basis for a lawsuit does not yet exist. While there is proof of errors, because Bethesda can in some way prove consistent work (albeit kept unreasonably “unpublic”), they can be legally considered to have honored the spirit of the contract made by the verbeage on the back of the game package. We could not gain enough ground for a lawsuit until and unless they confirm some or all of the DLC will not be coming to the PS3.
That is the unfortunate state of any lawsuit attempt. In fewer words, we cannot claim failure until failure can be proven. Legally, a delay in product release is not a failure, unfortunately. That said, the threat of a lawsuit could be motivation to bethesda. I for one would not join any lawsuit until more concrete conditions were met, such as those I have outlined above. Otherwise it would be a suit without hope of victory.
Bethesda, I still believe in you. It’s high time you gave us a silver lining to this cloud.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.bondura Stephen Bondura

Actually, Bethesda and Sony have admitted this is a PS3 specific problem. There have been multiple articles on this. There is some interpretation needed in some of the articles, but it is not enough to raise any flags. The authors are quite straightforward on their sources.
Having tested multiple business programs for bugs, I can tell you that the larger the program and/or the more “moving parts” in the program, the more connection points in the program that need to be satisfied for the add on to co-exist properly. You can indeed miss a few minor connection points here and there and get satisfactory results, but missing a major one can be trouble.
From what Bethesda has released on the performance issues, which I agree is not enough to be certain, it seems at least reasonable to infer that some of the significant connection points were not properly satisfied.
Think of making an add-on or even a program patch as an update to certain nodes in a communication network, such as phone land lines, where a node is a connection point to however many households. Now consider a modification to a node that is central to communication to a group of outlying nodes. If that modification isn’t right, you may unintentionally disconnect a group of nodes from the network. In programming terms, this cause fps, graphics, and other such errors. A clear Skyrim example would be the quest related glitches, like General Tulius remaining immortal because the game didn’t communicate the change needed in his condition to complete the Civil War quest line.

        • Idiots…..

The is NO good reason. Do any of you really think complaining will help??? No. With the way that you’ve been talking about Bethesda, I wouldn’t be surprised if they “tried to sort out the problems” indefinitely as in, it’s never going to come for you because you pissed them off so much with your stupid childish remarks.

          • MuffinMan

… Like I said depends on the reason, and there are good reasons, but I suspect you are misinformed. Complaining might not help, but it is the only way to let them know and remind them of the problem the PS3 community is facing. We paid the same amount of money as xbox and pc users and they were aware of the problems skyrim is having with the PS3. Is not a childish remark, and is less stupid to point out the flaws of a company and its products. So please, if you are only here to take off your anger with others, go visit some other site.

          • BoyHitsTroll

            You mean like you’re doing?

there probably trying to get it out for christmas but they arent going to discount it, they arent going to spend all that time fixing it and not get payed for doing it.

  • Lace

Its just bad business. Even if they do offer a discount its still telling them this is okay. Not like this is the first time this has happened. Just a bad company. There is no place for a group who actually believe this is a way to be running things.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.bondura Stephen Bondura

No one here is really saying this is good business. We’re just debating whether or not it is worth continuing to wait for PS3 content that may or may not come, and reasons why we would still buy it. The business aspects that many are citing are just for illustrative flair and reasonable background from which each poster is drawing their particular opinion. For example, I am happy to wait for PS3 content, I don’t really care whether there is a discount, but I also believe this is bad business at the moment. Sure, Bethesda’s PS3 bottom line will be damaged by this, but that is not my concern. Mine is only to hope for the best and make the right decision for me when the time comes.

  • Annoyed

please stop making misleading articles like this they provide no information and the only reason you seem to be doing this is for hits to your website, post the title as “will there be no dawnguard before christmas?” as this is an accurate title for your article as it is speculation, you seek only to annoy people who want facts and in future i will not be clicking on In entertainment who seem only to shite-stir in order to cause a media frenzy. in short this is misleading.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.bondura Stephen Bondura

Lol. I had to read this twice before I understood you. Good point on the misleading title, but I wouldn’t call this pointless. It’s a combined summary of certain events and opinion piece, with a question to the reader. I’m certain if it were intended to generate hits for the site, it would have been much different in form than this and would have generated a far greater number of hits. These articles have the intentions to keep the conversation alive and generate different angles to the conversation. Typical for most Internet forums. I can understand if such a format is not everyone’s “cup of tea” though. :)

  • Some Guy

I’m a bit pissed off with this
But, last week I bought Dishonored.
And it rocked. And I’ll buy the DLC for that, and the Skyrim DLC when it hopefully comes out.
Betheda arn’t as stupid or as evil as most of the people here believe. There’s a problem. They’re trying to fix it. They don’t want to give out false hope.
Do you honestly believe they’d just ignore all the money they could get out of PS3 DLC? When they fix the problem, we’ll get the DLCs.
And i’d rather hear nothing until it was definite, instead of hopes that might just be pushed back

    • http://www.facebook.com/cory.nason.7 Cory Nason

and yet they ignored the money they could get out of the oblivion DLC. all those strongholds you could get for the Xbox were not available on the PS3. that would of been a nice little trickle of extra money for them.

      • wahawah

those small dlc’s are worth next to nothing they came out with shivering isles and knights of the nine for the ps3 and made a pretty penny.

    • http://www.facebook.com/shaun.spragans Shaun Spragans

Yet they won’t tell us wut the problem is just that “somepeople would’nt care and some would”

  • WhiteStrike

I’m slowly beginning to lose my interest in Skyrim. If you look at the difference in scope and quality between Skyrim and Morrowind it really shows how inferior Skyrim is. By the time any DLC comes out, I will be over The Elder Scrolls.

  • Pissed off

This is just stupid they act like there is no ps3

  • Lost Interest

For once I actually hope Anonymous hacks someone, this someone being Bethesda.

  • Humnut

Abandon Bethesda? Hell no. Though Skyrim’s dlc has eluded me for months now, that doesn’t seem like a good reason to up and leave the company’s great content. When all is said and done, whether I get to play dawnguard on my ps3 or not, it hasn’t changed the fact that Bethesda has given me a great game to play, and other games as well. Skyrim still holds it’s place as my second favorite game ever, losing out that first spot by none other than Morrowind. I’ll just keep my spirits high, and if it comes down to it I’ll just get a new computer and play Skyrim on that. This one single thing is not going to keep me from playing Skyrim or is it going to make me stop buying Bethesda’s products.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stephen.bondura Stephen Bondura

      Well said!

  • Avid PS3er & Skyrimer

I don’t care if the DLC comes out in March of next year. I’ll get it then. I’m a patient person and switching over consoles, especially to one that is worse than the PS3, makes no sense. Also, being in game design, I can really understand how hard this must be!

I love Bethesda. They made a world I fell in love with. As long as they are working on the DLC, I don’t care how long it takes.

  • jason bradley

are people really still hoping we’re going to get dawnguard?People should really just accept the fact that we will not get it or any dlc for skyrim at least until a game of the year edition comes out.

  • Snow-Wing

Some of you people need to take a look at yourselves – this is getting ridiculous! The way I see it is if you’re that upset about not getting the DLC buy an Xbox. If you continue to persist with the juvenile argument that you shouldn’t have to buy an Xbox you need to tell yourself that you DO have to buy an Xbox, so quite whining like a three year old and sort it or shut it. If you don’t care enough about this downloadable content to buy another console, or simply don’t have the money, quit complaining because that should be the end of it – it’s time to move on. Bethesda messed up on the development side, we have to deal with it. Just like you have to deal with owning a PS3.

    • jason bradley

yep i own a ps3 and an xbox and i got skyrim for ps3 so i will most likely just buy a new copy for xbox and just buy the dlc cause it’s obvious ps3 isn’t getting it.

  • TranceStyle

I am fairly disappointed about Bethesda. The only way I can play the 3 DLCs now is to upgrade my computer, buy the PC version of skyrim and its DLCs and trade the PS3 version.

Im not going through all the trouble of getting a Xbox as I’ve already got a games console and thats the playstation 3.

I first got the PS3 in 2007 at a time when I had a old computer that I could not get games for it anymore and when the xbox had technical difficulties with the red ring light of death.

With this fiasco its going to make it difficult for me to buy any Elder Scrolls game they make in the future.

Bethesda have set a bad impression about themselves of being capitalist pigs.

  • Oak

Sure, there is more than just a bit of disappointment around dawnguard (or lack there of) on the PS3 however, in spite of this I am still very very patiently awaiting the release that may or may not happen. Whether it is free or discounted or charged at full price I will still invest my money in Dawnguard and any and all other additional material for Skyrim as well as other bethesda products. Plainly put, Skyrim is the best game on a console in my opinion. I’m hungry for more and am very hopeful to satisfy my appetite. Don’t give up Bethesda because I haven’t givin’ up on you!

  • Anonymous

Do any of you fools realize WHY Bethesda physically CANNOT release the DLC for the PS3? It’s because the PS3 has a divided pool of RAM, half for system, and half for the game. Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 suffered the same issue. If you play either of those games with all the DLC, you’ll expect your game to be unplayable in around 100 hours or so. Skyrim PS3 players had this problem last year, with the game becoming unplayable within 24 hours of playing. This also happens to PC players when too many mods are installed (around 100 or so).

TL:DR? Adding more content for Skyrim on PS3 would cause extreme, unplayable lag.

    • http://www.facebook.com/VisualSai NaiSai Yang

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I played Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition and it was fine. I’m at 120 hours on Skyrim with my 4th character, and I’m still not lagging. Perhaps it’s because I know how to take care of my PS3?

    • http://www.facebook.com/VisualSai NaiSai Yang

Also, the RAM issue is idiotic. Red Dead Redemption is massive, with great DLCs, but the PS3 handled it. Uncharted has graphics superior than Skyrim, but the RAM is okay. grand theft auto V is coming out, and said to be bigger than Skyrim! Xbox players are going to suffer, because Rockstar cares about PS3 more. If the RAM was such a problem, then PS3 would have never received all of Fallout 3 and New Vegas’ DLCs. In my opinion, The Elder Scrolls are Bugthesda’s biggest game, that’s why Microsoft bribed them out in hopes of coverting PS3 and PC players.

    • Shayne

Frostbite 2, which uses far more advanced technology then an engine Bethesda has ever made, runs 100% fine on the PS3 with DLC early. CryEngine 3 runs perfect as well, still using more advanced tech. Get where I’m going here?

You’re point is invalid and shows just how stupid you are. This is Bethesda’s fault, they CAN release the DLC but refuse too because M$ is paying them.

      • Josh

u cant compare a game that has a separate gaming engine things get compressed and coded differently what do u think memory leaks are they the main reason for the game freezing, the xbox freezes every couple of hours becuz the memory isnt given back to the system thus leads to unstable playing and freezing, so obviously bethesda’s engine isn’t very well optimized which is probably why they fix memory leaks all the time same problem with morrowind, oblivion, fallout, and your not taking into consideration that those games arent as well compressed for ps3, i’m not trying to piss people off but they did a shitty job porting the game over to ps3, but they can fix it i know that as a fact, and im 100% sure it is coming and for u ppl that want it free is rediculous 20$ wow thats a ton of money. unless u r 12 years and dont have a job it should be no problem to pay for

I have an xbox im not a fan boy and I don’t think it will kill you to wait a little longer all i have is hearthfire, ive played dawnguard and in my opinion its worth 10$ and u ain’t missin much maybe after they come out with it for ps3 we can finally see some bug fixes soon especially the gallus encoded journal for ocd and roleplaying issues if they never do then ill just get it for pc.

  • Guinevere

I realllllly hope dawnguard will eventually be available for ps3…. I will wait as long as it takes. I just want it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/VisualSai NaiSai Yang

If Skyrim doesn’t come out by 2013, then I will be even more grateful about moving on. Time to enjoy Black Ops II, Assassin’s Creed III, Playstation All Stars, Battlefield 3. Oh yeah, and the upcoming grand theft auto V.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-OConnor/730227201 Chris O’Connor

i think many of us believe that we deserve free or at least discounted dlcs to compensate for the wait, but there is no way that they will spend months working to fix something and make no money off of it. if the dlcs come at all, however unlikely that is, they will be at full price. the only thing to be done is to boycott companies that have exclusivity agreements with microsoft. forcing them to release games and dlc content for all platforms simultaneously should prevent anymore of this ramming through xbox dlcs before the bugs for the first can ever be hammered out for ps3.

  • Adam

Ok, this is rather rediculous….. all of us have been waiting months for this dlc….. RELEASE THE OTHER 2 DLC’S AT LEAST! Im mean really? the other 2 wont work ether? it seems rather suspicious that the dlc just so happens to work for ALL the other platforms…… exept ps3…….. Im starting to think that this is some sort of deal microsoft made with bethseda for money……. but thats just my opinion, I could be wrong but it seems likely to me. But ya they should just release the other 2 and the dawnguard when it gets fixed.

  • alexander-19

it’s pretty sad that bethesda is really going this far for whatever purpose. The fact is i believe they are simply stalling and hoping people will forget. On the back of the PS3 copy of skyrim it says DLC included. patches and small content like that are not classafied as DLC. So if bethesda finally says that they will not release dawnguard or any DLC for PS3, well then all PS3 skyrim players may file a classaction lawsuit against bethesda. It’s getting rediculous just how much they dont want PS3 to get the DLC. This is laughably unproffesional.

no wonder why bethesda dislikes the ps3 users…..

I would love it if Anonymous retaliated for us…

  • hingle mcringleberry

I know that you guys are pissed off, but this all sounds a little extreme. I mean destroy bethesda, hack them, sue them. Really?!?! It’s a video game and honestly what would you even sue them for? They never technically did any wrong to you.

  • Rob

I think I’m going to call Sony and ask them to either get Skyrim DLC’s, sue Bethesda, or I’m buying an Xbox…I hate that idea, but Sony has to be accountable for NOT standing up for their customers. We’ve waited…and waited, but no information from either company, no dlc, nothing. If we as ps3 customers rally together we will make a difference.

  • NightWolf

Dear all PS3er’s, Do not switch over that would be just more of a reason for Bethesda to not release the DLC. This is just all a plot to get gamers to go one way on gaming. Patience is a virtue, dnt trip. If they ddnt plan on giving us the DLC they wouldnt have given us Skyrim in the first place. And the only reason Oblivion was on Xbox 360 first was because PS3 didnt exist at the time, dnt let those over exaggerated Xbox Gamers who take gaming waaaaayyyy tooo serious psyche you out. Skyrim PS3 will get the DLC’s im sure of it.

Dont let them psyche you out*

and that’s why elder scrolls 3 morrowind was not on the ps2……… bethesda has always preferred the xbox over the playstation. Not trying to bring you down but the xbox will always have the upper hand in the elder scrolls series. All the ps3 users should be lucky that they get it in the first place. The elder scrolls series was not intended to be on playstation in the first place. Don’t get me wrong the playstation is amazing console but bethesda just doesn’t lean towards the playstaion along with other studios(most).

      • Just a Guy With a PS3

Preference and responsibility are two completely different things. Bethesda, irregardless of which console it prefers, made a commitment to Playstation players of Skyrim and needs to make good on it. And yes, you were trying to bring that guy down.I take it your a Xbox guy, eh?

pc ;) best way to play skyrim

          • Just a Guy With a PS3

I’ve seen my share of awesome mods for PC, so I can understand the smugitude. Not to mention the patches the modder community releases (before Bethesda to boot). Big-ups on your gaming, bro.

thanks I don’t want you to think i’m some fanboy out there, I’m just trying to the spread the word of what people should consider in the future.

        • stop crying

were you expecting me to be a xbox player? no hate just to let you know that bethesda and the playstation have a bad history and it would be smart just to buy a elder scrolls game for the xbox 720 or a pc in the future

      • NightWolf

I get you and trust I know exactly what you are saying im just saying that patience is everything and it will eventually get around to the PS3. But if people turn away from the PS3 thats gonna give Bethesda all of the reason to not even ATTEMP to keep working on the DLC’s. Get me??

  • Joseph

Maybe they should stop making Xbox 360 DLC And put full Power into the first 3 and then go back.whats the point of releasing more DLCS and having a small team try for along time to create the one thats already out for everyother console…..they say there working on it more like working harder for newer DLC for XBOX 360 :(

  • Just a Guy With a PS3

I’ve been checking on this for far too damn long. I’m tired of hitting “search tools” and “past 24 hours”. I’m tired of waiting. I’ve been patient and understanding thus far but no more. And as someone who aspires to own and operate a gaming/software company I sympathize with Bethesda, this ,however, DOES NOT excuse proper public relations and transparency. I will suffer until the end of this year before giving up on this company. Oh, and I hope they do not expect a thanks nor a full priced DLC for this fiasco.

Bethesda is pretty immature. Unless it’s just their idiot programmers. Eh, whatever. I’ll just go play one of those PS3 exclusives. :D

I have to admit that I have been hopeful for the new content…dawnguard looks awesome…I have looked into getting a 360…although I have to admit that part of the reason is for skyrim stuff…it would also open me up to other games I have always been interested in…But, I love my ps3 and fortunately I have not had any real problems with skyrim to start with…

I don’t know if I will actually go through with getting the 360…but it is a serious thought. But, something that I have looked into is the game Dragon’s Dogma…I haven’t bought it yet…but it looks good…Capcom was popular for its fighting games and the fighting in the Dragon’s Dogma does look better than skyrim’s …

But, I haven’t played the game…I really like the elder scrolls layout…But, Dragon’s Dogma could provide something different…but yet could be a lot of fun…I have also heard that the game runs better on the PS3 than the 360…cool… and it might get big enough to give elder scrolls and good run for its money…

If DLC isn’t coming out this year i will change to pc for good! Bethesda’s games are best but they can’t FIX there games like “new vegas dead money” you can’t play it on ps3 so you kinda threw you money if you bought it and this new DLC like dragonborn is coming on xbox but they haven’t even done those last DLC’s for ps3 and I don’t want to even remind you of oblivion.
