iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3 and mock iPhone Plus

The mockup seen in the image above on this page shows the iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and also a mockup of what could be the iPhone Plus.

We don’t need to look far to find someone that has made fun of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 over the last year, and when you see one up close and your friend states it is a phone, some of us just have to laugh. The fact is the phablet market is growing and the need for a device that does it all is growing as well, so Apple will take notice and produce a product to cater for this market either this year or by 2014 at the very latest.

Since the release of the iPad mini we performed a number of visual reviews with the smaller iPad side by side with an iPhone 5, 10-inch iPad and a number of other devices. This showed a clear reason why the iPad mini had been needed, but we also see a similar situation for the iPhone 5S, 6, Plus, or whatever you want to call the new iPhone’s expected to arrive in 2013.

The demand for larger screens is clear and a growing number of smartphone users want a device that does everything, so a smaller display like on the current iPhone 5 is too small considering they mostly browse the web, play games, and listen to music. Even if these users still make phone calls, this year speaking on a phone is not the task a lot of people are doing the most.

Price is also a factor – paying out for a smartphone and tablet might not be possible for everyone’s budgets, and even if it is possible some people don’t want to carry two devices when they can own one that finds a middle ground.

If you look at the cost of an iPhone 5 and even the cheaper iPad mini combined, this can really add up and some people feel Apple need to release something in-between the current iPhone 5 size and iPad mini.

We mentioned the mockup pictures in the image above already and considering the iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3 size comparison shows Samsung’s offering is much bigger, this is also much smaller than the Galaxy Note 2.

Having owned every iPhone since the first generation, I feel that it is time for Apple to create something much bigger for a world that has changed dramatically over the last few years, especially when it comes to the screen sizes most people want for a smartphone.
