Adventures of Tintin 2 post Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Once the final part of the Hobbit trilogy is finished we were wondering what Peter Jackson will do with himself as these films and The Lord of the Rings trilogy have dominated his life, although it seems he will be rushing straight back to continue the Hobbit saga after the release of The Desolation of Smaug. According to reports, he will then be using up his time to work on an Adventures of Tintin sequel.

The original film was produced with Steven Spielberg and last year Jackson gave us the impression he would be returning to do Adventures of Tintin 2, once he was completely finished with The Hobbit trilogy. This sentiment was reiterated when Jackson was doing the rounds for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and First Showing document his statement to Bad Taste.

Jackson said “once I’m free of ‘The Hobbit,’ I’ll be going back into doing ‘Tintin,” as apparently this was his initial aim, even though The Hobbit seems to have taken centre stage at the moment. This is ideal for fans of both franchises, as Jackson probably wants to keep The Hobbit fresh in his mind and concentrate on the final part of the story.

With that in mind, plenty of big blockbusters are set to release in 2015, so with the final part of The Hobbit still to be done we are not expecting the Adventures of Tintin 2 to arrive until at least 2016. Films produced by Spielberg and Jackson will always attract moviegoers, but the previous Adventures of Tintin did not do as well in the United States as it did internationally, although it seems as if European fans are more familiar with the cartoon series.

According to producer Kathleen Kennedy, Adventures of Tintin 2 will revolve around The Calculus Affair, while speculation surrounds the storylines of Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun to be the inspiration here. From what we are hearing from Spielberg, the story outline is completed and this will revolve around two books, but he is not ready to divulge anymore.

So, it seems like an Adventures of Tintin sequel is on the table and waiting to be made, and even though we are looking forward to it we don’t want Jackson to feel pressured into rushing the final part of The Hobbit. While we loved the original film of the Adventures of Tintin we are hoping the sequel will attract a bigger audience for more of his endearing adventures. Are you looking forward to Tintin 2?
