Since back in 1994 when Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his supporting role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, he has been chasing the golden statue. That elusive Oscar even avoided him two more times when he was nominated for his lead role in Blood Diamond and The Aviator. But thus far still no Oscar win for Leonardo DiCaprio.

This year with The Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio has been nominated for his performance as Jordan Belfort in the Martin Scorsese movie. Critics have agreed that DiCaprio is at the height of his game in the performance, despite the movie drawing controversy over the large quantity of adult language, drugs and sex in the film.

DiCaprio has already won a Best Actor Comedy awards at the Critic’s Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, and now has a chance of picking up that elusive Oscar. However, is 2014 the year Leonardo DiCaprio should win?

In the movie, DiCaprio plays a rich stockbroker with an extremely excessive lifestyle, and according to an article over on Cinema Blend, the star is ‘more magnetic’ than he has ever been, even though he is portraying one of the most sleazy and despicable protagonists of the modern age.

DiCaprio’s role is fun even though you want to slap the character in the face at times, and it is somewhat funny to watch his interpretation of the ‘American dream’ unfurl in its extravagance, yet DiCaprio does portray the character well.

However, although DiCaprio is in with a chance with The Wolf of Wall Street, the category does have several deserving performances such as Bruce Dern in Nebraska, Christian Bale in American Hustle, Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave, and Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club.

So the big question is, should 2014 be the year Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins that Oscar? What are our reader’s views? If you think he should then let us know why you think so by dropping us a line in our comments area below.
