The Australian Open is underway and despite the soaring temperatures the competition does not look to be cooling down. As we run through some of the latest results coming from this year’s tournament, we also take a look at some of the important matches and the progress of specific players.

First up we thought it would be worth highlighting David Ferrer’s joy as he extends his grand slam record booking a place in the fourth round for the 15th time in succession. According to reports, Ferrer was too good for Jeremy Chardy after a straight-sets win at the Australian Open.

Ferrer, the No 3 seed, played through the searing Melbourne heat to knock out the Frenchman 6-2 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 in two hours 12 minutes, setting the Spaniard up with a clash against Florian Mayer who beat 20th seed Jerzy Janowicz.

On the women’s side, number one seed Serena Williams enjoyed her progression to the fourth round with a comfortable win Daniela Hantuchova. Despite the heat Williams was not troubled too much by her opponent and registered a 6-3 6-3 victory, amounting in her 61st win in the singles main draw at the Australian Open, which is more than any other female in the sport.

According to reports, Serena Williams declined to do a TV interview afterwards as she felt dizzy, but apparently this was not the case, in fact she had things to take care of. A full rundown of all the latest results and scores can be seen on the Sky Sports website, along with other pages dedicated to specific challengers.

Do you think Serena Williams will win the Australian Open this year? Alternatively, who do you think will win the men’s singles?
