Corrie actor Stephen Hancock has passed away

You’d probably have had to have been a fan of hit UK soap Coronation Street for quite a few years to have seen Stephen Hancock in the series, although you may have heard Emily Bishop mention her hubby Ernest in quite a few episodes.

Corrie’s Ernest Bishop was played by Stephen Hancock for 8-years during the late 60’s and early 70’s, and the character was killed off as part of an armed robbery storyline due to a pay dispute between the actor and the shows bosses.

Sadly Stephen Hancock passed away on the 1st of November leaving behind two daughters Gemma and Phyllida. His wife actress Jocelyne Page died back in 2012 and his brother Christopher, who played Charlie Cotton Snr in EastEnders died in 2004, reports Metro UK.

A spokesperson for Coronation Street has said… “We are saddened to hear of Stephen’s death and our thought are with his family and friends at this time. In Ernest Bishop, Stephen created a character that will always be remembered by Coronation Street fans. Ernest’s dramatic exit from the soap is still one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history.”

Stephan Hancock retired from acting back in 2004 and was aged 89 when he passed away.
