Universal possibly looking at Tom Cruise for monster movie
Yesterday is was rumoured that Angelina Jolie was being eyed by Universal to star in their monster movie remake Bride of Frankenstein, as the studio is working on their own shared universe using classic monsters. And the latest big name to be rumoured for a monster role is Tom Cruise.
The word is Tom Cruise is said to be in talks with Universal to appear in their reboot of The Mummy, with the script currently being penned by Jon Spaihts, reports Cinema Blend.
The original 1939 The Mummy featured horror king Boris Karloff as the bandaged wrapped monster, and of course The Mummy saw a reboot as a franchise back in 1999 with Brendan Foster, as adventurer Rick O’Connell, but Universal’s new reboot will apparently set The Mummy in a contemporary setting.
However in a conflicting report by Deadline, they say that both Tom Cruise’ people and Universal have told them that there isn’t a deal in the works to bring Cruise onboard for The Mummy, so make of this what you will.
As mentioned above whether this turns out to be true remains to be seen, and of course there is no mention as to what character Cruise would play if it turns out to be true, but we’ll let you know as and when we hear.
