An electric hybrid supercar driver was stopped speeding along a motorway at twice the speed limit.
Officers said they clocked the £85,000 BMW i8 travelling at 142mph on the M5 in Somerset on Thursday, January 20, before stopping the vehicle near to Bristol.
Avon and Somerset Police posted an image of the BMW at 12.18pm on the motorway and another on the hard shoulder, after the vehicle was pulled over by officers.
Road Policing Unit, the police force, criticized motorist’s driving for being’reckless’ and’selfish’.
The electric-powered i8 combines a petrol engine and an electric motor to reach a maximum speed of 155mph.

Avon-Sydney Police shared an image showing the BMW on the motorway around 12.18pm. Another picture was taken on the hard shoulder by officers after it had been stopped. Road Policing Unit of the force criticized the motorist for driving recklessly and selfishly.
Tweeting @ASPRoadSafety officers stated that 1 in 25 motorists who pass them in less than an hour were stopped for speeding at 85 mph or more.

Officers near Bristol stopped a driver who was driving at speeds of 142 mph in Somerset today.
“This kind of driving puts lives at danger. It is reckless and selfish. Only 1 driver was caught exceeding 85mph in one hour.
