Ralf Rangnick agrees to take over as Manchester  United’s interim manager for six months as PSG dig their heels in over Pochettino – but German will NOT sign in time for Sunday’s trip to Chelsea

Manchester United and Ralf Rangnick have apparently reached an agreement to be the interim manager of the club.

After their defeat by Watford 4-1, the Red Devils split with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club is currently in 8th place in the league table. 

United has begun a search to find a temporary boss who will take over until the end the season. Rangnick was among the shortlist that included Rudi Garcia and Lucien Favre as well as Ernesto Valverde, Paulo Fonseca, Paulo Fonseca, Paulo Fonseca, Paulo Fonseca, and Paulo Fonseca.

The Athletic reported that Rangnick reached an agreement, which means that he will leave his role as Lokomotiv Moscow’s head of sport and development to accept the new position.

Rangnick remains under contract with the Russian club. However, United don’t consider it to be an obstacle for the 63 year-old to take over as the manager.

Rangnick is considered the “Godfather” of German football. His modern coaching methods have revolutionized the game. According to the same source, he plans on taking up a consultancy position for two years after his six-month tenure ends.

The Manchester Evening NewsAccording to reports, Rangnick arrived in Manchester for talks with the club at the beginning of this week. According to reports, he rejected an original offer but now accepts new terms.  

Rangnick won’t be on the team for Saturday’s visit to Chelsea because of work permits. The 63-year-old has previously managed Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.

He has more recently taken up roles as director of football at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig before moving to Russia. He served as Leipzig’s boss.

The question is still open as to whether Rangnick will keep Solskjaer’s staff in the backroom, which did not depart with him over the weekend.

Kieran McKenna and Mike Phelan are still at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick overseeing United’s win over Villarreal by 2-0 in midweek. 

United has chosen to appoint an interim manager after realizing that it was too hard for them to land their main target, Mauricio pochettino.

United reached an agreement to be represented by Rangnick. Rangnick will now take on a consulting role following his departure.

PSG has denied rejecting an official approach from Pochettino on Wednesday, however Sportsmail understands that United attempted to discreetly determine through third parties whether it was feasible to make Pochettino permanent manager.

PSG won’t allow the Argentine mid-season to depart and interrupt their campaign. Rangnick will be out of office until the end of the year, but he is likely to re-emerge in the United States as a prominent candidate.
