Police caught a gin-swilling nursing assistant after she was seen driving a BMW slowly through a roundabout.

Officers became aware of Natalie Robinson on the Stockton-on-Tees roundabout, County Durham, October 10, when other motorists beeped.

When they pulled her over, the 42 year-old district nurse admitted that she had drank ‘four Gins’ before getting behind the wheel.

A breath test showed that the mother had nearly 150 microgrammes in 100 millilitres. 35 is the legal limit.

Robinson appeared Monday at Teesside Magistrates Court, where she pleaded guilty for drink-driving.

Alan Davidson, the prosecution, stated that police were patrolling Stockton around 4pm when they heard a ‘public member beeping their horns.

Officers then saw Robinson driving slowly around a circleabout in a white BMW.

Mr. Davidson stated that other motorists were taking actions to avoid her.

She was ‘appeared intoxicated’ when officers pulled her over. She claimed she had drunk ‘four gins’.

Robinson, who has never been convicted, said she was’mortified” after failing her roadside breath test.

Danielle Hewitt, who was defending, stated that Robinson, North Yorkshire’s Ingleby Barwick, gave an extremely high reading, but added that there was’substantial mitigation.

She stated that Robinson would “never again be in front of the courts.”

Robson appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to drink driving. She will be sentenced at a later date.

Ms. Hewitt stated that Robinson used alcohol as a coping mechanism after an abusive relationship. She also claimed that her job as a district nursing officer during the covid pandemic caused severe mental stress.

She said that she had been through a lot. Her alcohol problems got out of control.

The magistrates bench adjourned sentencing for a later date in order that the probation service could compile a presentence report.

Robinson will be back in court to receive her sentence on December 8. Robinson was granted unconditional bail until that time, as well as an interim driving ban.
