Amerie Garza was just named to the honor rolls when she was assassinated. The funeral for Amerie Garza was held at Uvalde on Tuesday. 

As the Texan community reels, it has held its first funeral in Uvalde to remember last week’s victims of the school shooting.

Amerie Jo Garza (10 years old) was laid to repose on Tuesday after a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a 114 year-old Catholic church located about a mile away from her elementary school.

Angel Garza her stepfather was a medical doctor and ran quickly to the school when he heard about the active shooter. There, he saw that a 10-year-old girl had been covered in blood. When he asked about what happened, he was informed that it wasn’t her blood but her best friend Amerie’s.

Amerie called 911. The gunman then shot Amerie.

She said, “I only want people to understand that she was trying to save her classmates,” her stepfather added. “She wanted to save everybody.

Angel Garza, a Uvalde resident, wept as he described to Anderson Cooper the horrible moment when he learned that his stepdaughter had died. He was trying to help a 10-year old girl covered in blood.

Amerie received the Bronze Cross posthumously by the Girl Scouts of the United States of America on Friday. Her grandmother Berlinda Arreola said.

Girl Scouts that show extraordinary heroism or are willing to risk their lives in order to save others’ lives will be awarded the national award.

Many mourners who came to the church Tuesday dressed in purple and lavender, which were the favorites of little girls who dreamt of being an art teacher.

Her casket, which was grey with lilac was placed in the church’s decoration.

“Amerie Jo Garza was kind, caring and blunt. She loved people.

Garza described Amerie, calling her the’sweetest little girl’. Amerie was an excellent student who cared about her family and was good with them. 

Amerie’s funeral was attended by a young girl, who is seen arriving with a sketch in her honour.

Her mother, Kimberly Garcia, took to Facebook to address the family's loss, saying it is incomprehensible

He said, the day following her death: “I want to know how she was a victim.” 

‘She was so sweet… she was the sweetest little girl who did nothing wrong. 

“She was a good listener to her parents, always brushing her teeth. She also had a creative side. We never saw her in trouble at school.

Amerie led the procession from Hillcrest Memorial cemetery to Amerie after the Mass.

A small group of people had assembled for the short ceremony. After it ended, white balloons in the shape of doves were released into wind by her family.

Her family shared that Amerie liked Chickfil-A, swimming and pizza.

Before she went to school, she kissed Zayne, her three-year old brother, each morning. Last year, she was given the school’s ‘Heart of Gold’ award — and this year, she made honor roll.

Kimberly Garcia shared a photo of Amerie, holding a certificate, in honor of her membership to the A-B Honor Roll, on the day following her death.

Her mother said, “You didn’t deserve this sweet baby girl,” “Mommy, Amerie, I cannot do this life with you.”

11 Funerals will take place this week.

On Tuesday, Maite Rodrguez (10 years old) will be buried.

Destiny Esquivel her cousin said that she loved animals Monday to CNN’s Adrienne Brodus.

Maite wanted be a marine biologist.

She was driven. She was intelligent. She wanted to be somebody.
