Hake’s on board a plane! British Airways passengers are confused to see more than 100 frozen fish boxes on the Terminal Five conveyor belt, instead of their bags

  • Becca Braunholtz (from Dorset) arrived at Heathrow Terminal 5 Monday night
  • She stated that she saw at least 100 fish boxes gliding around a suitcase carriage.
  • Empty-handed passengers were advised to return home and were given claim forms.
  • BA apologized in a statement and stated that most passengers had received bags

British Airways passengers smelled fishy when they saw frozen sea bass crates arrive at Heathrow in place of their luggage.

‘At most 100’ boxes of seafood were seen floating around in a luggage car at Terminal 5 airport on Monday night. This left travelers ‘baffled’ as to where their belongings have gone.

Becca Braunholtz, from Sherborne, Dorset, told the BBC it was ‘the weirdest thing’ to see crates of sea bream instead of her luggage as she had landed shortly after 10pm following a family in Cyprus with her husband and two children, aged 11 and 7.

'At least 100' boxes of seafood were seen gliding around a luggage carriage at the airport

At the airport, ‘at least 100’ boxes were seen floating around in a luggage carrier.

Some passengers were ‘irate’, she said, adding: ‘We thought our luggage was in the second wave of deliveries but it was just box after box of fish.

“Everybody was being very polite and British about it, but when more boxes started going around we all began to suspect that something wasn’t right.”

Mrs Braunholtz said there were at least 100 frozen fish boxes, all with stickers for JFK Airport in the US.

She spoke to BA staff about her situation and they were ‘perplexed’ and didn’t know how it had happened.

She said, “We just can’t understand why, at some time, one of these people loading these fish boxes didn’t think that ”this can’t be right for Terminal 5 it’s baffled.”

The sea bream crates arrived on the conveyor belt and confused passengers.

Empty-handed passengers were eventually given claim forms and advised to go home.

British Airways has since contacted the family to inform them that their luggage will be returned later today.

BA apologized in a statement, stating that most passengers had received their bags as they are used to and that they were reuniting travelers with their luggage ‘after realising there was something fishy’.
